Behavior Management Transition Specialist - Full-Time Monday - Friday 9a-6p

The purpose of this position is to assist the school administration and staff in implementing research-based interventions to decrease inappropriate student behavior in the classroom to increase academic achievement as well as communicate with stakeholders regarding student needs. This position includes supporting student transition into and out of the program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supports and promotes the school’s overall mission and vision.

● Assists administrators and staff with safety throughout the school by monitoring students immediately before and after class, in the classroom, cafeteria and halls.

● Uses appropriate communication skills to encourage students to acknowledge inappropriate behavior, accept responsibility for behavior, and identify ways to improve behavior.

● De-escalates negative student behavior within the school.

● Gathers and enters student data regarding discipline, attendance, and academic achievement, and other pertinent information regarding students. Provides data to administrators and staff with the goal of improving student behavior and academic achievement.

● Works with administration and staff to develop and implement Behavior Improvement Plans (BIP).

● Uses researched-based interventions with students to improve student behavior. NEVER administers corporal punishment. Follows school policies, district policies and state/federal laws pertaining to discipline of students.

● Assists staff and administrators in developing intervention behavior plans. Monitors plans and recommend changes to staff and administrators as needed.

● Communicates through the proper channels to keep supervisors and other appropriate personnel informed of impending problems or events of unusual nature.

● Completes forms and produces reports as requested by the administration and staff.

● Works with students individually and in small groups on conflict resolution, providing strategies and activities that restore them to the classroom environment and promote positive behavior.

● Attends meetings as needed.

● Prepares or completes various documents, reports, and correspondence as required.

● Assists with gathering information from base school and stakeholders regarding a student’s education.

● Corresponds with base school regarding plans in place and data collected to help students transition back to base school.

● Maintains documentation of communication with parents, schools, and other stakeholders to ensure fidelity and consistency in services and interventions.

● Performs general/clerical tasks, which may include answering telephone calls, typing documents, making copies, sending/receiving faxes, filing documentation, processing incoming/outgoing mail, or running errands.

● Operates other technology to enter and maintain data concerning student behavior.

● Complies with applicable company, state, and federal codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.

● Adheres to the Teacher Code of Ethics as defined by Tennessee Law.

● Acts in a professional, respectful, and welcoming manner always.

● Creates a customer-focused climate and provides quality services and support to schools, community, businesses, Superintendent of Schools, Board of Education, and other stakeholders.

● Collaborates with all employees.

● Follows established procedures to ensure assigned areas are safe.

● Maintains confidentiality.

● Attends work and arrives at work on time

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

· Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

· Three (3) years of successful experience working in an urban school.

· Or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

· Must attend training courses required by school administrators.

· Trained in at least one research-based strategy for classroom management and/or student behavior such as conflict resolution or peer mediation preferred.

· Personal cell phones will be used for two factor authentication.

Skills and Abilities:

· Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing

· Additional languages preferred

· Ability to use good judgment in assessing situations and applying behavior management strategies that deescalate inappropriate student behavior.

· Ability to collaborate with school administrators, staff, students, parents, and other stakeholders.

· Ability to gather student information from various sources and use information to make recommendations to administrators, staff, students, and parents to improve student behavior and academic achievement.

· Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

· Ability to calculate decimals and percentages.

· Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.

Pay: $20.00 per hour
