A day in this role
You start your morning syncing with customer plants and OEM contacts, aligning on dimensional control priorities across the full gage life cycle. Before lunch, you review a new fixture design, verify it meets corporate quality specifications and applicable industry standards, and record timing updates in the corporate Prolink tooltab. In the afternoon, you evaluate usability for setup, certification, and calibration on an inspection system, then troubleshoot a complex measurement issue that surfaced during a pilot build. You close the day approving a functional gage design change, finalizing supplier quotes and POs, and ensuring key deliverables are on track from award through PPAP.

What you will lead
- Act as the technical bridge to customer plants, Quality, Engineering, and OEMs throughout the complete gage life cycle.
- Apply and enforce standard engineering methods and criteria for designing, building, and modifying gages to meet customer quality needs; drive best practices, prioritize workloads, conduct weekly timing reviews, maintain status in the corporate Prolink tooltab, and hold design reviews prior to release.
- Oversee gage designs to ensure effective measurement techniques that comply with corporate quality specifications and relevant industry standards.
- Assess gage designs/builds for ease of setup, certification, calibration, check methods, and repair in line with corporate gage standards.
- Support cross-functional projects involving functional gages and inspection systems.
- Approve component and assembly fixture designs/builds that satisfy plant operations and inspection method requirements per customer expectations.
- Deliver gage design projects collaboratively to meet quality objectives; create timelines and deliverables to ensure on-time completion.
- Evaluate supplier quotations on cost, timing, and delivery; issue purchase orders, establish budgets, and cultivate a supply base that meets corporate cost/quality targets.
- Partner with PDTs and engineering teams to resolve component print issues.
- Contribute to documentation updates (SQC, SPC, etc.) necessary to support functional gages.
- Hold approval authority for functional gage design changes.
- Assist with dispositioning failed functional gage calibrations and R&Rs.
- Recommend and introduce new gaging technologies.
- Diagnose and resolve complex gage or measurement system malfunctions.
- Track key program deliverables from award through PPAP.
- Lead gage quotations for new customer program RFQs.
- Support FTF (fast track fixtures) using 3D-printed details for service, prototype, and pilot builds.
- Background in automotive interior products.
- Deep knowledge of GD&T, datum schemes, gage/manufacturing/assembly processes, and strong command of gage design, development, and measurement principles.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
- Influential leadership with excellent oral and written communication; thrives in collaborative environments.
- High sense of urgency and strong presentation skills; confident presenting to senior corporate leaders and customers.
- Willingness to travel to corporate plants, suppliers, and customer sites for on-site support.
- Contract role based out of Troy, Michigan.
- Remote position with periodic travel as business needs dictate.
