What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Operator position at Cache River Mill & MetalWorks?
CNC Operator / CNC Programmer – Woodworking & Millwork
Cache River Mill & MetalWorks
North Little Rock, AR
This Is Not a Button-Pushing CNC Job.
This is a role for someone who dreams about running big, powerful machines—the kind most shops never get to touch.
At Cache River Mill & MetalWorks, CNC machines are at the heart of our woodworking operation. Multiple 3-axis CNCs, a 5-axis CNC, and a 5-axis CNC lathe are used daily to create complex architectural millwork, furniture components, mouldings, and custom wood parts that demand precision, creativity, and skill.
If you’ve ever wanted to walk into a shop, look around, and think “I want to run these machines”—this job is for you.
Where You’ll Work
You’ll be working inside the historic KC Baking Powder Factory building (1948) in North Little Rock—an industrial landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
This isn’t a generic warehouse. It’s a massive, authentic industrial space where old-world craftsmanship meets modern CNC technology. We’re actively restoring the building while pushing the limits of what CNC woodworking can be.
The Work
Our CNC machines aren’t here to make the same part over and over.
They’re used for:
- Architectural millwork and casework
- Custom furniture components
- Complex mouldings and profiles
- One-off and small-batch woodworking projects
- Parts that require creativity, precision, and problem-solving
Every project is different. Every setup is a challenge. Every day, you’ll learn something new.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re looking for that person:
- The one who loves machines and wants to understand them inside and out
- The one who wants to learn CNC programming, not just load files
- The one who takes pride in precision and craftsmanship
- The one who wants to grow into an expert—not stay in the same place
You must have some CNC experience, but you do not need to know everything. If you’re motivated, curious, and serious about mastering CNC woodworking, we will train you.
What You’ll Do
- Set up and operate 3-axis and 5-axis CNC machines used in woodworking
- Learn and assist with CNC programming (CAM experience is a plus, not required)
- Select tooling, set work offsets, and verify programs
- Read shop drawings and CAD files
- Work closely with craftsmen, designers, and project managers
- Push machine capabilities to improve efficiency, quality, and creativity
- Help refine processes and workflows as the shop continues to grow
Experience We’re Looking For
Required:
- Some hands-on CNC experience (woodworking strongly preferred)
- Mechanical aptitude and strong attention to detail
- Desire to learn, grow, and take ownership of your work
Preferred (but not required):
- 5-axis CNC experience
- CAM software experience
- Background in woodworking, millwork, or cabinetry
- Experience with custom or non-repetitive work
Why This Job Is Different
- You’ll run large, advanced CNC machines
- You’ll work on high-end custom woodworking, not commodity parts
- You’ll grow into CNC programming and optimization
- You’ll work in a historic industrial building unlike any other shop
- You’ll be part of a team that values craftsmanship, technology, and pride in work
