Description
Under general supervision of the Administrative Lieutenant, performs a variety of technical and clerical support work entering, retrieving, and verifying information in the appropriate police department record systems and responds to requests for information from law enforcement officers, agents of the court, and the public.
Qualifications
High School GED or equivalent AND experience equivalent to one (1) year full-time office/clerical support work; OR completion of a post high school course in Office Practices, General Business, or closely related area.
Responsibilities
Redacts written and video camera data to meet GRAMA requirements. Help with evidence retention and disposition. Know the Spillman data system to obtain data for record keeping and retention. Be the backup evidence technician and learn the evidence storing and disposition software. Make copies of a variety of records/reports for law enforcement officers, agents of the court, and other authorized persons; conduct records checks of arrest, conviction, and traffic violation history in response to authorized requests, perform criminal expungements, respond to GRAMA requests; searches periodic reports of criminal activities.
Performs a variety of clerical support work, including typing correspondence, filing hard copies of a variety of forms and records, and issuing dog and bicycle licenses; collecting fees; researches/retrieves information from computer records system to answer questions from law enforcement officers and the public; answers routine questions from the public regarding general police department policies/procedures; screens phone calls and visitors, directing them to the appropriate staff or other City Departments, and perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Ability to learn codes to identify the various crimes and criminal activities to be entered as data into the Logan Police Department records systems.
Ability to learn and adhere to the confidentiality requirements of police records and information.
Ability to learn who is authorized to receive various types of information available in the records systems.
Ability to learn and understand the general policies and procedures of the Logan City Police Department.
Ability to learn the general operations of other City of Logan Departments.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to understand and follow complex written and verbal instructions.
Ability to operate a variety of standard office equipment.
Able to type at least 40 w.p.m.
Possess effective oral communication and writing skills related to proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation of the English language.
Practices quality customer service.
Possess organizational skills and is detail-orientated.
