This department drives research and development activities focused on future access network technologies and virtualized infrastructure. Our team plays a crucial role in delivering software and infrastructure innovations that benefit the cable industry, with particular emphasis on Network Evolution, Platform Evolution, Reliability & Experience, and Differentiated Services.

CableLabs is seeking a Lead AI/ML Engineer to help define and build the next generation of intelligent broadband networks. This role will focus on architecting and developing AI-driven systems that enable real-time intelligence across broadband networks. You will work at the intersection of artificial intelligence, machine learning, software engineering, and network infrastructure, designing systems that transform network components into intelligent, data-driven platforms capable of detecting, analyzing, and resolving impairments in real time. You will help shape the architecture and implementation of advanced AI solutions that span the edge, access network, and cloud, while working closely with software engineers, network architects, and industry partners to bring innovative concepts into production-ready reference implementations.

Compensation: The salary range is $135,200 - $165,360. This position is eligible for bonus incentive compensation up to 20% of base salary.

We are looking for an AI/ML Engineer who is skilled in:
- AI interoperability
- Model Context Protocol (MCP)
- Agentic workflows, embodied AI, and session automation.
- Stay abreast of emerging AI and ML technologies, new releases, industry trends, and research developments.
- Lead the design and development of AI/ML architectures and reference implementations for intelligent broadband networks
- Develop and deploy machine learning models that analyze telemetry, identify anomalies, predict impairments, and drive automated resolution workflows
- Design AI systems that correlate application KPIs with network telemetry to enable closed-loop automation and Quality by Design capabilities
- Build and integrate LLM-based systems, agentic workflows, and AI interoperability frameworks leveraging MCP and emerging industry standards
- Create data pipelines to ingest, process, and analyze large-scale, real-time telemetry from network, application, and edge environments
- Develop AI solutions that are designed to operate across distributed edge and cloud environments, including CPE, access nodes, core platforms, and virtualized infrastructure
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to prototype embodied AI and intelligent automation capabilities across broadband networks
- Contribute to the development of APIs, frameworks, and models that support federated developer platforms and Network-as-a-Service capabilities
- Evaluate and apply advanced AI techniques, including supervised learning, unsupervised learning, time-series analysis, causal inference, reinforcement learning, and generative AI
- Establish best practices for AI model lifecycle management, including training, validation, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement
- Ensure solutions are scalable, secure, observable, and member adoption ready
- Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership across AI, ML, and software development initiatives
What Is a Must Have
- 7 years of experience in AI/ML engineering, data science, or related technical roles, with demonstrated technical leadership
- Strong experience designing, developing, and deploying AI/ML systems in production environments
- Proficiency in Python and experience with modern AI/ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-learn, or similar
- Experience with LLMs, generative AI, agentic workflows, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and tool orchestration frameworks
- Experience building and optimizing machine learning pipelines and real-time inference systems
- Experience working with structured and unstructured data, including time-series telemetry and streaming data
- Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms, statistics, data structures, system design, and model evaluation techniques
- Experience designing and working with databases and data platforms, including SQL, NoSQL, and vector databases
- Familiarity with cloud-native and distributed environments, including containers, Kubernetes, and scalable AI infrastructure
- Experience integrating APIs and working with service-oriented or microservices-based architectures
- Experience with Git workflows (GitLab/GitHub)
- Strong software development background, including experience building scalable backend systems and distributed platforms
- Proficiency in software development languages such as Go, Rust, C, or TypeScript
- Experience with Model Context Protocol (MCP) or similar frameworks for AI interoperability and agent integration
- Experience with orchestration frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, Ray, CrewAI, or similar technologies
- Experience with telemetry, observability, or analytics platforms used in networked or distributed systems
- Familiarity with broadband, telecommunications, DOCSIS, Wi-Fi, mobile, or network infrastructure technologies
- Experience processing and analyzing large-scale time-series data for anomaly detection or predictive analytics
- Experience developing software reference implementations, APIs, and developer-facing platforms
- Experience creating technical documentation using AsciiDoc, Mermaid, Markdown, or similar tools
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, or a related field
