Job Description
This position performs tasks required for the operation of directional drill, including setup and bore path completion for the construction/upgrade of communications conduit, gas, water, sewer, etc.
Key Responsibilities:
- Loading and unloading directional bore equipment in a secure and damage-free manner;
- Transporting associated tools, materials, and/or equipment safely;
- Completing daily inspections on bore equipment prior to commencing work;
- Preparing drill fluid based on site conditions prior to boring commencing;
- In conjunction with bore crew, locating/operating the directional drill using selected bore heads and back reamers to place cables;
- Operating horizontal directional drill equipment according to company and industry standards;
- Locating cables and verifying them in accordance with blueprints;
- Identifying utilities in the construction area and bore path;
- Connecting/stubbing up conduit and wire;
- Digging pits, trenches, or potholes as required, including windows when crossing utilities;
- Restoring and/or landscaping disturbed areas of the jobsite;
- Acknowledging responsibility for accurately completing all required company documentation for each assignment according to established company standards and procedures (i.e., timesheet, vehicle log, expense report).
Requirements:
- The ability to read and interpret engineering/construction prints, plans, and specifications;
- Knowledge of utility depths and placements;
- Possess general knowledge of construction practices;
- The ability to work in various environments/settings with moderate to loud noise levels;
- The ability to work in trenches, manholes, and tunnels;
- Must have attention to detail and be thorough in completing work tasks;
- The ability to work efficiently, independently, and collaboratively within a team environment.
Travel Requirements:
- Weekly travel is required for this position. Company will pay hotel expenses (shared room) and per diem.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One year of experience operating a directional borer preferably in the telecommunications field;
- Previous rock boring experience;
- Class A CDL.
