What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Programming Technician position at Cable Communications, Inc.?
About the Role
Cable Communications Inc. (CCI) is a family-owned low-voltage systems integrator that has served Ohio for almost 30 years. We install and support structured cabling, access control, security cameras, AV, paging, and Vision/Edge AI for GCs, developers, schools, facilities, and end users.
We're hiring a Field Programming Technician to own the programming and commissioning of our CCTV and access control systems. Programming is the main job. When a system isn't ready to program yet, you'll be on site installing devices and cabling with the crew so the job gets there faster. Over time, we want you teaching the rest of the team how to do what you do.
We run on three rules: do the right thing, do the best you can, and ensure there's care. We push decisions down to the people doing the work and expect ownership in return.
What You'll Do
Programming and commissioning (primary focus)
- Program, configure, and commission access control systems: controllers, readers, door hardware, schedules, access levels, credentials, and user databases
- Program and configure camera systems: IP addressing, NVR/VMS setup, camera views and analytics, recording schedules, retention, and remote access
- Work across the platforms we install, including Brivo, Verkada, UniFi, Axis, and Hanwha
- Set up and troubleshoot the network side of these systems: VLANs, switch ports, PoE budgets, and firewall/remote access settings, working with the customer's IT when needed
- Test every door and camera before turnover and document as-builts, IP schedules, and credentials
- Train customers and end users on their system at turnover
- Troubleshoot and fix programming and integration issues on service calls
Field installation (when systems aren't ready to program)
- Install cameras, card readers, door hardware, power supplies, and controllers
- Pull, terminate, label, and test copper and fiber cabling
- Read prints and work from scope to keep the job moving toward programming
- Keep your work area, tools, and company vehicle clean and organized
Training the team
- Show other techs how to program and commission the systems we install, on the job and in the shop
- Help build simple checklists and standard setup steps so programming gets done the same way every time
- Be the go-to person techs call when they're stuck on a programming issue
