Rivers Health is seeking a full-time OR Circulator to perform the following duties:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job.
The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below; and specific functions may change from time to time.
- Performs initial assessment of patient.
- Formulates a plan of care and nursing diagnosis based on the
assessment.
- Revises and updates plan of care through continuous monitoring and
evaluation of patient.
- Performs nursing care in a safe and timely manner according to unit
specific proficiencies, hospital policies and procedures and
philosophy.
- Accurate documentation of care.
- Provides patient education and discharge planning in collaboration
with other disciplines.
- Delegate’s patient care duties according to the proficiency level of
team members while retaining accountability for duties delegated.
- Assist in education and staff development of professional and
nonprofessional personnel and provides technical supervision on the
unit.
- Serves as preceptor to new employees.
- Continually evaluates care being delivered and constantly strives to
increase quality and efficiency through the hospital-wide
interdisciplinary CQI process. Attends meetings as assigned.
- Keeps Vice President of Patient Care Services and/or Risk Management
apprised of special concerns regarding quality, cost effective care
and risk management issues. Keeps Surgical Services Manager
appraised of actions.
- Utilizes standards of national specialty organizations.
- Takes responsibility for specific projects which will ensure
departmental compliance to standards of environment of care,
management of information, care of patients, and infection control.
Attends meetings as assigned.
- Notes structural and/or equipment damage, requests maintenance
Repairs as necessary and reports action to Surgical Services
Manager.
- Practices positive customer relations techniques. Respect’s patient
privacy rights and values of individual patients and provides care
accordingly.
- Maintains emergency drugs, equipment, and supplies.
- Assists with unit cleanliness.
- Attends to patient's and family's needs concerning responses to
illness event. Considers emotional and spiritual as well as
physical health.
- Works in harmonious manner with team members and strives to create a
climate conductive to open and honest dialogue and sharing of
concerns. Attends unit meetings.
- Attends educational offerings. Must maintain a minimum of 24
Contact hours annually.
- Responsible for safeguarding medications and narcotics.
- Participates in developing and evaluating annual unit goals and
objectives.
- Safe administration of medications with appropriate monitoring.
- Completes all annual competencies for assigned areas of
responsibility.
- Provides accurate and thorough documentation on the operating room
nursing record reflecting the care given, the patient's response to
care and other observations.
- Demonstrates a strong knowledge base and understanding of aseptic
principles by implementation and evaluation of techniques, ensuring
and maintaining a sterile environment of the perioperative patient.
- Maintains count of sponges, needles, and instruments to ensure no
Loss of items according to present policy.
- Assures the availability of surgical supplies.
- Monitors the use of necessary instruments, supplies and equipment
And reporting any needs to the Surgical Services Manager.
- Assists in supervision of personnel and department to provide
Optimum assurance of a safe physical environment.
- Ensures a smooth-running surgical schedule by completion of daily
Work assignment, preparing case supplies for the next day’s cases,
Cleaning and tidying and maintaining stock of surgical supplies.
- Follows written protocol when taking call, trading call and request
for time off. Maintains flexible hours to meet the needs of the
patient.
- Provides for continuity of individual patient care by receiving and
giving reports to and about the patient as necessary to ensure good
patient care.
- Assists in operating room staff development and education by
participating in the formulation and interpretation of procedures
and techniques, evaluating of all operating room activities and
nursing care given, and hospital inservices to increase professional
competence.
- Receives patient post operatively after regular working hours if ICU
is full.
- Performs other duties that may be assigned.
- Complies with Corporate Policies, Departmental Policies and
Procedures and Personnel Employee Handbook.
- Demonstrates excellence in customer service skills.
- Fosters an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration.
- Participates in quality improvement activities including serving on
quality improvement teams.
- Cross-trains to other areas as assigned.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING:
Graduate of an approved school of nursing with current WV license. BCLS
and ACLS required.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
One year nursing experience preferred in area assigned.
