What are the responsibilities and job description for the Med Ex Student Intern position at Cabell Huntington Hospital/St. Mary?
The MedEx student internship is a work-based internship designed to provide patient care experience in a clinical setting, under the appropriate clinical supervision, after successfully completing the prerequisite courses in the Health Science Education Program of Study. The student is a high school senior selected to participate in the MedEx program in either Cabell or Wayne County. The student chooses a health career pathway for in-depth study for a Patient Care Technician or a Medical Assistant. The student intern will be part of the patient care team in the designated clinical location.
Qualifications:
- Student intern must be current high school senior at Wayne High School, Cabell Midland High School or other high school as may be included in the Medical Explorers Program.
- Student intern must have successfully completed the junior year of the MedEX program. Instruction is career-focused, emphasizing employability skills, career development, and the application of healthcare information technology and technical skills. The curriculum is guided by West Virginia Department of Education standards.
- The student intern must have successfully completed the following courses:
- Foundations of Health Science
- Advanced Principles of Health Science
- Clinical Specialty I / 0790 Clinical Specialty II

The student intern must have completed at least 10 hours of job shadowing during their junior year of high school while enrolled in the MedEx Program.
