Role Description The EC Teacher Adapted (Autism) at Harris Rd Middle is a full-time, on-site role located in Concord, NC. This educator designs and delivers specialized instruction for middle school students with autism, using adapted curricula, structured environments, and evidence-based strategies to meet individual education program (IEP) goals. Day-to-day responsibilities include planning and implementing lessons, differentiating instruction, managing classroom routines, and providing academic, social, and behavioral support tailored to each learner. The role collaborates closely with families, general education teachers, related service providers, and school administrators to develop IEPs, monitor progress, and adjust interventions as needed. The EC teacher also maintains accurate documentation, participates in IEP and team meetings, and contributes to a safe, inclusive school climate that promotes student independence and success.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in Education and Teaching, including special education practices for students with autism.
- Strong Lesson Planning skills to design adapted, standards-based instruction aligned with IEP goals.
- Effective Communication skills for collaborating with students, families, colleagues, and support staff.
- Experience in Training and supporting instructional assistants or other team members working with students with disabilities.
- Valid North Carolina teaching license with appropriate EC/Special Education certification or eligibility to obtain such licensure.
- Knowledge of autism spectrum characteristics, behavior support strategies, and individualized instructional methods.
- Ability to implement IEPs, collect and analyze student data, and adjust instruction based on progress monitoring.
- Proficiency with classroom technology and instructional tools to support diverse learning needs.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and classroom management skills, with a commitment to inclusive, equitable practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field; advanced degree or specialized training in autism support is beneficial.
