Attention all current and aspiring Protestant Chaplains! Are you hoping to play a major role in reintegrating people into society by serving all people within the institution framework, and using pastoral counseling to convey, rather than impose, religious values? We have an amazing opportunity with full time permanent hours, a fast-vesting pension plan, up to 14 paid days off per year, and comprehensive benefits. 

This position is responsible to provide spiritual and moral guidance to State institution residents; to conduct Protestant religious services; to provide pastoral care; to give instruction; and to do other related work. Duties include, but are not limited to the following: Conduct regular daily and/or weekly worship services, special religious services on religious and national holidays, memorial services and funeral services. Provide pastoral visiting to hospitals, work programs, visiting areas, housing units, group activities, and families of incarcerated people. Ensure that weekly religious services/visits are provided to all incarcerated people. Provide individual, family, grief, marital, pre-release planning, and other pertinent counseling.

This position is located at the California State Prison in Corcoran CA, which is accessibly located right off Highway 43. Conveniently located one hour from Lemoore Naval Air Station and Sequoias National Park. Two hours from Yosemite National Park and Pismo Beach.

Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented. PLP 2025 requires that each full-time employee receive a 3 percent reduction in pay in exchange for 5 hours of PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Salaries do not reflect recent changes.

If it is determined a candidate does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position. Candidates who have been withheld may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board.

 

Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by departmental annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.

 

Applicants who completed their education outside of the US (with foreign degrees/transcripts) must obtain and submit verification of U.S. course/degree equivalency. Foreign education credential evaluation services can be found at NACES | National Association of Credential Evaluation Services
