This is a remote/work-from-home/hybrid position, providing flexibility to work from home with occasional onsite client office visits, providing meaningful HR impact for client organizations and their employees.
Compensation
This position offers a base hourly rate of $40–$45, commensurate with experience and expertise.
This role is non-exempt and overtime eligible in accordance with applicable wage and hour laws. Overtime opportunities may vary depending on business needs, client demand, performance expectations, and management approval.
With potential overtime, total annual compensation may range approximately from $83,000 to $120,000 , depending on hours worked and client assignments. All compensation figures are estimates and are not intended to guarantee earnings or overtime availability

How You’ll Make a Difference
In this role, you will serve as a payroll compliance expert and trusted partner to client organizations, ensuring payroll accuracy, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency.
You will support clients by:
- Ensuring payroll compliance with federal, California, and multi-state regulations
- Maintaining accurate payroll operations and reporting
- Supporting organizations with payroll setup, onboarding, and compliance practices
- Collaborating with HR consultants to align payroll and HR functions
Your work will help organizations maintain compliant payroll practices while supporting employees and leadership teams.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
Process accurate end-to-end payroll for primarily California clients and occasional multi-state clients
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws
- Maintain expert knowledge of California meal and rest break laws, paid sick leave laws, and wage statement requirements
- Conduct payroll audits and identify potential compliance risks, including risks related to PAGA or wage and hour claims
- Manage payroll deductions including garnishments, benefits deductions, and voluntary deductions
- Audit payroll reports and resolve discrepancies
- Assist clients with payroll onboarding, offboarding, PTO tracking, and employee classification
- Provide responsive, professional payroll support to clients
- Maintain confidentiality and security of employee and client payroll information
- Collaborate with HR consultants on compliance and HR initiatives
- Stay current on payroll and employment regulation updates across multiple states
Requirements
- 5 years of California payroll processing experience
- 3 years of multi-state payroll experience
- Strong expertise in California wage and hour law compliance
- Experience supporting companies ranging from 5–200 employees
- Experience using payroll systems such as ADP Workforce Now, Gusto, iSolved, QuickBooks, or similar platforms
- Payroll certification (CPP or FPC) preferred but not required
- Strong working knowledge of HR fundamentals and payroll compliance
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple payroll deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong customer service and client relationship skills
- High level of integrity and confidentiality
- Fully equipped private home office setup
- Ability to occasionally travel to local client sites
- Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license
- Spanish language skills are a plus
