Job Description And Duties
Limited Term/12 months; may be extended up to 24 months or may become permanent**

Newly hired State employees may be placed at the minimum of the salary range. Every 12 months, based on performance evaluation, employee may receive a 5% salary increase until they reach the maximum salary for the position.

  • Effective July 1, 2025, specific Bargaining Units and associated Excluded State employees are subject to a salary reduction between 2% - 4.62% in exchange for hours in the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) per month. Under the general supervision of the Correctional Counselor II (Sup), the Correctional Counselor I (CCI) is responsible for managing an incarcerated person classification caseload within any of the following areas: Units 1-5, Folsom Minimum Support Facility, or Administrative Segregation. Specific responsibilities include the following:

Working Conditions
This position works 'behind the walls' at Folsom State Prison.

Folsom State Prison is located approximately 30 miles east of downtown Sacramento and just minutes from old town Folsom.

The grounds of the prison are surrounded by beautiful landscaping and friendly wild animals (deer, squirrels, turkeys, geese, etc.)

Candidates new to CDCR/CCHCS are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, as well as a Tuberculosis test/evaluation prior to appointment, followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.

Statement of Qualifications
The SOQ should be no more than two pages, single-spaced, 12-point font, on a blank, standard letter-size, piece of paper.
