As a growing, field-based energy services provider, the team works closely with clients to deliver practical, high-performance solutions from initial assessment through final installation.
Role Description This is a full-time, on-site HERS Rater role based in New Bedford, MA. The HERS Rater will conduct residential energy audits and inspections, including site visits to new and existing homes to perform blower door tests, duct leakage tests, and insulation inspections in accordance with RESNET standards and local energy codes. The role includes collecting and entering field data, modeling homes in HERS software, preparing energy rating reports, and documenting findings for energy code compliance and rebate programs such as Mass Save®. The HERS Rater will communicate results and recommendations to builders, homeowners, and internal staff, explaining energy efficiency options, rebate opportunities, and required corrective actions. Day-to-day responsibilities also include coordinating schedules with construction teams, maintaining accurate records, following safety protocols on job sites, and collaborating with project managers and installers to ensure quality work from pre-construction through final verification.
Qualifications
- Technical skills related to residential energy performance, such as conducting field measurements, blower door and duct leakage testing, and interpreting building plans and specifications.
- Proficiency with computers and software, including data entry into HERS rating tools, basic use of spreadsheets or project management systems, and comfort learning new digital platforms.
- Strong communication and customer service skills to explain technical concepts clearly to homeowners, builders, and internal teams, both verbally and in writing.
- Organizational and time-management abilities to handle multiple site visits per day, manage documentation, and meet reporting deadlines with attention to detail.
- Problem-solving mindset to identify issues in building envelopes and mechanical systems and recommend practical, energy-efficient solutions.
- Ability to work safely on active construction sites, including climbing ladders, accessing attics and basements, and lifting testing equipment as needed.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation for travel to job sites, and a clean driving record.
- RESNET HERS Rater certification (or willingness and ability to obtain certification within a defined timeframe with company support).
