Biomedical Technician III

Franciscan Health Indianapolis Campus 8111 S Emerson Ave Indianapolis, Indiana 46237 The Biomedical Technician III works within the Clinical Engineering Department to support activities related to the service and management of the medical equipment. This position may perform activities such as data entry and analysis within the medical equipment database, compiling and submitting various reports, direct communication with vendors and customers, and performing basic technical service activities. For all tasks, there will be an emphasis on high quality and contribution to the department's efforts toward cost-effective management of the medical equipment. The Biomedical Technician III may work within any assigned area(s) of Franciscan Health and at other locations supported by the Clinical Engineering Department under the guidance of Biomedical Equipment Technicians or Clinical Engineers, as directed by Clinical Engineering management. Familiarity with sterile techniques, equipment setup, and workflow coordination in operating rooms or procedural suites. Understanding of patient safety protocols, instrument handling, and possibly device troubleshooting during procedures. Ability to collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and technologists in high-pressure settings. Knowledge and expertise preferred but not limited to the following Endoscopy processors/scopes and reprocessing workflows Surgical video integration (4K/3D, routing, recording) Anesthesia workstations and patient monitoring Electrosurgical units and surgical energy devices WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT Equipment Services Communicates with clinical care providers regarding the status of any equipment service activities, adjusting activities when necessary to accommodate patient care schedules, while still assuring regulatory compliance. Medical Equipment Service Delivers high quality and cost-effective results by performing medical equipment service and providing technical support across a wide range of device types and in multiple clinical care areas, following the organizational policies and procedures. Department Budget Demonstrates an understanding of and adherence to the department budget by using good judgment to plan and prioritize activities and by considering a variety of different service strategies to assure the highest possible level of efficiency and cost-effectiveness for all services provided. Equipment Information Documentation Documents equipment information and service activities within the medical equipment database to assure timely, accurate and complete service documentation and inventory management. Equipment Maintenance Inspects, troubleshoots, repairs, calibrates and verifies the performance of the assigned clinical equipment and systems in accordance with Clinical Engineering policies and processes. Mentorship & Training Mentors and trains less experienced members of the Clinical Engineering department in a way that reflects Franciscan Alliance mission and values. Demonstrates self-accountability for completion of assigned service activities with only occasional need for managerial oversight. Clinical Engineering Department Success Participates in ensuring the success and positive reputation of the Clinical Engineering department by willingly and competently performing any necessary service functions and/or related administrative activities. Healthcare Technology, Regulatory Changes Participates in relevant technical and professional training or related activities to stay informed about changes in healthcare technology, regulatory requirements and other external factors that may affect the activities of the Clinical Engineering department. Strategic Planning Plans and prioritizes activities by considering a variety of different service strategies to ensure the highest possible level of efficiency and cost-effectiveness for all services provided. Concerns/Issues Responds to concerns of those we are privileged to serve, patient incidents, recalls, regulatory findings or other urgent situations that may arise within the daily activities of the Clinical Engineering team. Process Improvement Takes responsibility for identifying opportunities for improvement and making recommendations for positive changes in processes to improve the quality of service or contribute to a positive patient or organizational outcomes. QUALIFICATIONS Required Associate's Degree Biomedical Engineering Technology or related Preferred Bachelor's Degree Biomedical Engineering Technology or related 4 years With a BS degree in a technology related field, at least 4 years of experience in Healthcare Technology are required Required 6 years With an AS degree in a technology related field, at least 6 years of experience in Healthcare Technology are required Required 10 years In lieu of Associate's or Bachelor's Degree, at least 10 years relevant progressive service experience in a related field with at least 4 years in Healthcare Technology Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) - Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation CBET, CHTM, CCE or related preferred within 24 months A Certified Professional (A CERT) - CompTia One (1) IS Related Certification Required within 24 months (A , Network or similar) TRAVEL IS REQUIRED: Never or Rarely EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER It is the policy of Franciscan Alliance to provide equal employment to its employees and qualified applicants for employment as otherwise required by an applicable local, state or Federal law.
