PURPOSE OF POSITION: Provide field and related office services on construction projects as a representative of the firm. Specific project assignments will be made by the Managing Engineer.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Position Requires Familiarity With

  • Construction survey procedures.
  • NYSDEC mandated Stormwater Pollution Plan (SWPPP) Inspections and NYSDEC 4-hour Erosion and Sediment Control Training requirements.
  • General utility construction (water, sewer, drainage, roadway).
  • Local, State and Federal laws regarding environmental health regulations, and construction standards.
  • Local, State and Federal laws regarding labor standard.
  • Standard details and construction specifications of the firm.
  • Project recordkeeping for preparation of a certification report to include daily reports, panel placement, daily test seams, manufacturer's certification, destructive and nondestructive testing.
  • Familiarity with traffic control and OSHA protocol.

LIMITS OF AUTHORITY: May not field modify design intent or construction scope without prior approval of Project Manager. Consult with Project Managers before commitment to construction contract changes are made when a standard detail, construction detail or dollar change to the contract is probable from your authorization. Discuss changes to contracts or job problems with C.T. Male personnel before discussing opinions with Owner's representative.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Associate degree (A. A.) in Civil Engineering Technology program or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be familiar with OSHA protocol. Excellent recordkeeping skills a must.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before client representatives, contractors and employees of firm.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Driver's license. NICET Certification preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
