The full-time staff Veterinarian will work closely with the Medical Director and Leadership team to provide high quality surgery and wellness services. The starting annual salary is $95,000-$120,000. There may be some salary flexibility depending on experience, skills, and mission-alignment.

CSNIP provides veterinary care to the pets and people that need us the most. CSNIP’s team of medical professionals serve for approximately 20,000 animals every year at our three clinics—and there are many more that need our help. Our mission is to prevent pet overpopulation and improve the quality of life for dogs, cats, and their caregivers with accessible, high-quality, reduced cost veterinary care. Our veterinarians do not work on a commission basis and without the pressure to up-sell services. The work schedule allows for work/life balance without on-call, after-hours emergencies, or late-night work shifts. The work schedule is typically 7:45am-5:45pm Mon-Thurs or Tues-Friday. CSNIP will also consider those interested in part-time employment.

If you have limited experience with high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter, soft tissue surgery and dental extractions and want to become a better, more efficient surgeon, this is your opportunity to learn from the pros. This position also allows you to practice primary care medicine at our Community Well Pet Clinic where we provide preventive care for healthy pets and basic treatments for eye, ear, and skin issues. Additionally, the staff veterinarian will be considered an adjunct faculty member of Michigan State University-College of Veterinary Medicine and will teach spay/neuter and primary care techniques to the senior level veterinary students through our externship agreement with MSU-CVM. As CSNIP continues to grow to increase access to veterinary care for all pet families in West Michigan, the range of services we will offer will expand as well.

Job Description

JOB TITLE: Staff Veterinarian

REPORTS TO: Medical Director

Classification: Exempt, Salaried

JOB SUMMARY

C-SNIP, a nonprofit veterinary clinic celebrating 21 years of service, is growing and currently operates in our clinic and our Community Well Pet Clinic which opened in our new facility located in Walker, MI 2025.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Medical (75%):

• Provide compassionate, quality preventive and basic care to patients, overseeing all aspects of veterinary care at our Community Well Pet Clinic including physical examination, diagnostics, treatment recommendations and delivery, prescribing of medications and discharge information.
• Perform pre-surgery physical examinations on all surgical candidates.
• Perform 25 – 35 high quality, high volume spay/neuter surgical procedures per surgical day. Individualized training will be provided by CSNIP.
• Diagnose and treat post-surgical medical complications.
• Perform and oversee all aspects of minor dentistry procedures.
• Perform and oversee all aspects of minor outpatient surgical procedures.
• Perform humane euthanasia in accordance with CSNIP policy and protocols.
• Maintain current knowledge of veterinary medicine by keeping up to date with recent studies, research, and reports.

Customer Service (10%):

• Communicate with clients in a respectful, nonjudgmental way; discuss physical examination and test results to allow pet owners to help them make informed decisions about their pet’s care.
• Provide discharge instructions for patients and oversee the dispensing of medications.
• Consult with pet owners when concerns are noted during a pre-surgical exam to allow them to make the informed decision about whether to move forward with surgery.
• Counsel owners about end of life and other sensitive medical concerns.

Administrative (15%):

• Document exam findings, test results and treatment recommendations.
• Communicate effectively with Medical Director, Leadership Team, and other CSNIP medical and customer service staff.
• Support the development of training content, materials, and processes for professional and skill development of CSNIP’s vet techs, vet assistants, and the MSU-CVM extern students.
• Assist the Leadership Team to determine the scope of services CSNIP will offer as it grows based on experience with patients and clients.
• Assist the Medical Director with the development of medical protocols.
• Provide direct instruction to senior Michigan State University-College of Veterinary Medicine students.

Position Requirements:

• Graduated from an accredited veterinary medical college - DVM or equivalent.
• Possess a current license to practice in the State of Michigan and a willing to maintain a DEA and controlled substance licenses.
• Ability to communicate skillfully and effectively with a culturally diverse staff, volunteers, and community in a professional, pleasant, and respectful manner always.
• Surgical skills necessary to spay/neuter all ages (including pediatric) and sizes of dogs and cats.
• Skills needed to perform amputations, enucleations, dental work, and other standard procedures.
• Have the skills (or work up to within 6 months) to perform a minimum of 20-30 surgeries each day in addition to performing the other responsibilities listed in this description.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with a high level of accuracy.
• The ability to see what is impacting workflow and wiliness to take initiative to assist the team to solve workflow problems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including making solid judgment calls when necessary.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and ask for help when appropriate.
• Ability to function well in a high-paced environment.
• Possess a solid understanding of the principles of animal care and the CSNIP’s medical policies and procedures.
• Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of immunization as related to infectious diseases of animals and zoonotic diseases.
• Possess a passion for the organizational mission.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to move self in various positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces and working closely with others for a majority of the workday.
• Remaining in a stationary position, often standing for prolonged periods.
• Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
• Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
• Move, push, pull, and pick up items up to 30 lb.

Preferred Skills/Experience

• Experience in general small animal practice or shelter medicine preferred.
• Experience in high quality, high volume spay/neuter preferred.

Work Environment

• Includes high level noise environments, including barking and other animal noises. Includes pungent smells from animal caretaking, including from feces, abscesses, and other medical issues.
• Includes small and/or enclosed spaces and working near co-workers.
• Includes working around animals that are sedated, open to surgery, sick, and potentially fractious.
• Includes exposure to hazardous chemicals and regulated drugs.
