What are the responsibilities and job description for the Slotting & Operations Optimization Analyst position at C&S Wholesale Grocers, Inc.?
Position Overview
Manage the development of effective slotting programs throughout the C&S network and oversee the maintenance of existing slotting programs. Partner with other key groups (e.g. Operations, Operations Planning, Procurement, etc.) in the development and implementation of warehouse programs to drive efficiency.
Rollout slotting programs in newly acquired regions as well as existing. Focus will be on creating slotting maintenance programs, assisting with the hiring of slotting personnel, as well as guiding the workflows of the slotters in each region.
Forge and maintain a body of software tools, analytical processes and operational assumptions that guide event planning, and which local slotters also use to maintain best stewardship of their respective facilities:
Determine the needs for new tools or innovations to existing slotting tools
Determine priorities of such competing emergent requirements
Management of such in the context of resource and project planning
Take responsibility for maintenance and efficiency projects (i.e. customer separation, travel reduction, slot type optimizations, etc.) of C&S facilities in a comprehensive project-managerial fashion, including (but not strictly limited to) the following:
Item-level product allocation to slotting methods and facility geography
Impacts to peripheral facility operations and/or labor ramifications
Anticipation of changes to data systems and/or facility operations
Assume a dotted-line supervisory relationship over approximately 7-10 local facility slotters that are stationed in a given geographic area, with multi-disciplinary approaches tailored to the various facility types in the network (e.g. Dry, Perishable, Frozen, GM/HBC), and decide on means of monitoring their efficiency and efficacy. The role works with the Operations Management team in their respective facilities to ensure each warehouse slotter is utilizing the software tools properly and managing the routine slotting function to the corporate standard.
Develop & maintain a formal training program for local slotters covering such topics as:
Interface and use of the relevant systems, e.g. WICS, EXE, Red Prairie, etc.
Slotting “best practices,” e.g. tradeoffs/compromises & rules of thumb
Analytical techniques for processing the relevant information, e.g. MS-Access, MS-Excel, Teradata, etc.
Assume ownership of WMS modifications (e.g. shot breaks, putaway logic, etc.), and act as a gatekeeper for various facility data requests, particularly those outside the standard skill scope of a local slotter.
Assist local facility management teams in the endeavor of hiring qualified personnel to perform local slotting duties, conduct and/or arrange their training program, and monitor their performance on a semi-daily basis.
Assemble and manage ad-hoc teams of warehouse associates to assist in analysis and optimization of such plans as needed, and/or to execute slotting plans in conjunction with local management.

- Develop and manage an annual plan of maintenance/slotting initiatives designed to sustain efficiency from previously executed projects, as well as update slotting layouts to react to customer, SKU, and building changes
- Collaborate with operations leadership to increase efficacy of existing slotting programs and develop slotting programs where none exist
- Maintain ability and training of the slotting team as the super user for the Optricity slotting software package
- Manage the development of additional tools incorporating the existing and new WMS/ELS systems throughout the C&S network (WICS,EXE,Triceps)
- Build, maintain and support slotting models for key product allocation initiatives
