Job Summary

You'll work alongside paving crews, plant personnel, project managers, and inspectors to monitor quality throughout the construction process. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, pays attention to detail, and takes pride in delivering a quality product.
What You'll Do
- Perform asphalt quality control testing in the field to ensure compliance with project and state specifications
- Collect asphalt samples and perform density testing using gauges and roadway core samples
- Monitor paving operations and communicate quality concerns to supervisors and crews
- Conduct inspections of asphalt materials, placement, and compaction throughout the paving process
- Maintain accurate testing records and complete daily quality control reports
- Coordinate with project personnel, inspectors, and paving crews to resolve quality-related issues
- Assist with troubleshooting paving and compaction issues in the field
- Ensure testing equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and in good working condition
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements
- Perform other duties as assigned
- High school diploma or GED required
- Previous asphalt quality control, construction inspection, or paving experience preferred
- HMA Level 1 and Asphalt Roadway Technician certifications preferred, or willingness to obtain
- Strong math, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Ability to understand and follow directions
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with crews and inspectors
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Reliable, punctual, and safety-focused
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Willingness to travel to job sites throughout South Carolina
- Willingness to work overtime, nights, or weekends as required
- Commitment to safety and proper use of PPE
- Must pass pre-employment background check and drug screening
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods on active construction sites
- Ability to lift and carry testing equipment, materials, and roadway cores up to 50 pounds
- Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and perform field testing activities throughout the workday
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, dust, humidity, and noise
- Ability to walk on uneven terrain, freshly paved surfaces, and active roadway construction sites
- Ability to work near moving equipment and live traffic while maintaining situational awareness
- Ability to wear and properly use required PPE
