We are seeking a detail-oriented Buyer with strong communication and negotiation skills to support our purchasing operations and diversified product mix.
Position Summary
The Buyer is responsible for sourcing materials, components, and services in support of sales, estimating, and manufacturing operations. This role works closely with internal teams and external vendors to ensure competitive pricing, timely delivery, and compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Source materials, components, and services based on purchase requisitions, bills of material (BOMs) and project requirements
- Provide pricing, lead time, and availability information to support Sales and Estimating efforts
- Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding price, delivery, and compliance in a timely and professional manner
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and new suppliers
- Issue, manage, and track purchase orders using ERP system (SAP Business One)
- Expedite orders and proactively communicate status updates to Sales, Estimating, Production, and Quality teams
- Ensure purchased items meet customer specifications, contract requirements, and quality standards
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Sales
- Support continuous improvement of purchasing processes and supplier performance
- Assist Purchasing Manager and team with departmental initiatives and priorities
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Purchasing or supply chain experience in manufacturing environment preferred
- Experience with mil-spec hardware, government contracts is a plus
- Familiarity with ERP systems (SAP Business One preferred)
Skills & Competencies
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to interact across departments and with vendors
- Effective negotiation and vendor management skills
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, drawings, specifications, and contracts
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Team-oriented with a collaborative mindset
Work Environment & Requirements
- Full-time, onsite position
- Standard hours: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM
- Regularly required to sit, type, and use hands for computer and office work; occasionally required to stand, walk, climb stairs, and lift items as necessary in the performance of job responsibilities.
