THE ROLE

Position: Mobile Auto Repair Technician (W2 Employee) Schedule: 4 days / week (8:30am - ~5:00pm) Pay: $30/hour base up to $1,100/month performance bonuses

MISSION

Deliver premium-quality mobile auto repair that customers enthusiastically recommend to others, while maintaining profitability through efficient diagnostics and high conversion rates.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE (HOW YOU'LL BE MEASURED)

Diagnostic Excellence (Our Core Service):

Diagnostic accuracy: 95% (identify correct problem within 1.5 hours)

Diagnostic-to-repair conversion rate: 70% (customers trust your diagnosis and book the repair)

Quote accuracy: 90% (complete jobs at or under estimated labor hours)

Most of our revenue comes from diagnostics - your ability to accurately identify problems, explain them clearly, and convert customers to repairs is the foundation of this role

Revenue Performance:

Average ticket value: $475 per job

Complete jobs at or under estimated labor hours

Efficiency & Professionalism:

On-time arrival: 80% punctuality (10-minute grace period)

Software proficiency: Complete detailed service reports independently, quickly, and without guidance

Customer communication: Explain complex mechanical problems in plain, consumer-friendly language

Customer Experience:

Customer satisfaction: Maintain 4.5 star average rating

Rebook rate: 40% of customers return within 6 months

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR (REQUIRED COMPETENCIES)

Diagnostic Expertise (CRITICAL):

This is the most important skill for this role - 90% of our services start with diagnostics

Master-level diagnostic ability across electrical, mechanical, and computer systems

Expert use of scan tools, multimeters, and diagnostic equipment

Ability to think critically through complex problems systematically

Pattern recognition from experience (you've seen it before, you know what it is)

Troubleshoot independently without needing to call for help

Technical Skills:

ASE certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months)

5 years hands-on auto repair experience preferably at a name brand

Proficiency with scan tools and diagnostic equipment

Broad knowledge across multiple vehicle systems

Communication:

Translate technical problems into customer-friendly explanations

Build trust through clear, honest diagnostic explanations

Document repairs thoroughly with photos and detailed notes

Respond professionally to customer questions and concerns

Keep amin updated on job status

Work Ethic & Standards:

Extremely high standards for quality (nothing leaves half-done)

Self-motivated and accountable without constant supervision

Willingness to learn new systems, software, and techniques

Takes pride in work and reputation

Problem-Solving:

Think critically about root causes, not just symptoms

Troubleshoot independently without needing hand-holding

Adapt when parts availability or challenges arise

Tech-Savvy:

Learn and master our internal software platform quickly

Comfortable with mobile apps, digital photo documentation, and cloud-based systems

Complete detailed digital service reports without guidance

WHAT YOU'LL DO DAILY

Perform expert diagnostics - This is 90% of what you'll do. Customers call because they don't know what's wrong. You figure it out accurately and quickly.

Drive company van to customer locations (residential, office, parking lots)

Use professional scan tools and diagnostic equipment to identify problems

Complete repairs on-site (brakes, alternators, starters, batteries, etc.)

Document every diagnostic and repair with before/during/after photos

Explain findings and recommendations to customers clearly - Turn diagnosis into repair approval

Upsell additional services when appropriate and beneficial

Maintain organized van inventory and tools

Complete detailed digital service reports same

COMPENSATION STRUCTURE

Base Pay: $30/hour (from clock-in to clock-out)

Monthly Performance Bonuses (up to $1,100/month):

Diagnostic Close Rate:

70-79%: $200

80-89%: $400

90% : $600

Average Ticket Value:

$575 : $500

$525-574: $300

$475-524: $150

Total Potential Earnings: $3,840-6,620 / month
