Position OverviewCLA Title & Escrow is seeking an experienced, relationship-driven Title Attorney to join our team in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
This is a unique hybrid position combining real estate law, title operations, client service, staff development, and business development. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of residential and commercial real estate transactions and the ability to explain complex title and settlement issues clearly to employees, real estate professionals, lenders, and customers.
This attorney will serve as a trusted resource for our staff and clients while also helping CLA Title strengthen existing relationships and develop new business throughout the D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia markets.
Key ResponsibilitiesLegal and Operational Support- Answer daily legal and title-related questions from processors, settlement staff, sales representatives, real estate agents, lenders, buyers, and sellers.
- Review deeds, trusts, powers of attorney, corporate documents, LLC operating agreements, probate matters, title commitments, and other transaction-related documents.
- Assist with title curative matters, underwriting questions, ownership issues, liens, judgments, estates, business entities, and complex transactions.
- Help staff identify potential legal or title issues before they delay a closing.
- Coordinate with underwriters and outside counsel when additional guidance or approval is required.
- Support the company in maintaining high standards for accuracy, compliance, and customer service.
- Attend client meetings, real estate office visits, networking events, and industry functions.
- Meet with real estate agents, lenders, investors, developers, and other referral partners.
- Conduct or support residential and commercial real estate closings when needed.
- Assist clients with understanding settlement documents, title issues, and the closing process.
- Serve as a professional and knowledgeable representative of CLA Title in the local market.
- Develop and conduct training sessions for CLA Title employees.
- Provide educational seminars for real estate agents, lenders, investors, and clients.
- Create training topics involving contracts, deeds, estates, trusts, LLCs, title issues, fraud prevention, and changes affecting real estate transactions.
- Help improve internal procedures, reference materials, and staff knowledge.
- Stay informed about changes in real estate laws, title requirements, underwriting guidelines, and industry practices.
- Help maintain and strengthen relationships with existing CLA Title clients.
- Develop new relationships with real estate agents, brokerages, lenders, investors, attorneys, and other industry professionals.
- Participate in client lunches, office presentations, networking events, happy hours, seminars, and company-sponsored events.
- Work with the sales and marketing teams to identify business-development opportunities.
- Follow up with prospective clients and help demonstrate the value of working with CLA Title.
- Use legal knowledge, responsiveness, and education to help generate new business and deepen existing client relationships.
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law in Washington, D.C.; Maryland and Virginia admission is strongly preferred.
- Experience in real estate law, title insurance, settlements, or real estate transactions.
- Strong understanding of deeds, title commitments, trusts, estates, powers of attorney, LLC documents, liens, judgments, and title-curative matters.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
- Comfortable speaking in front of groups and leading training sessions.
- Willingness to attend meetings and networking events throughout the D.C. metropolitan area.
- Strong judgment, responsiveness, professionalism, and attention to detail.
- Ability to balance legal responsibilities with client service and business-development expectations.
The ideal candidate is not looking for a traditional desk-only attorney position. This person enjoys solving problems, supporting employees, educating clients, developing relationships, and representing the company in the marketplace.
