Python OperatorJob Summary

The Python Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating the Python automated structural steel cutting and processing system to produce accurately cut and processed steel components according to production drawings, cut lists, job specifications, and quality standards.

This position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to read and understand fabrication drawings, and a commitment to safety, quality, and production efficiency. The Python Operator works closely with the Saw/Cut, Fabrication, Welding, Material Handling, and Production teams to ensure materials are accurately processed and delivered on schedule.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Safely operate the Python automated cutting and processing equipment.
• Review work orders, production drawings, cut lists, and job requirements before beginning work.
• Verify material type, size, grade, quantity, and dimensions prior to processing.
• Load, position, secure, and stage structural steel and other materials for processing.
• Set up and operate the Python system according to established production procedures.
• Enter, verify, and select appropriate cutting programs and job files.
• Monitor equipment operation and make adjustments as necessary to maintain quality and productivity.
• Inspect completed cuts and processed components for accuracy and conformance to specifications.
• Use measuring tools such as tape measures, squares, calipers, and other inspection equipment.
• Identify and report material defects, incorrect dimensions, equipment problems, or quality issues.
• Maintain accurate material identification and ensure processed parts remain properly identified and organized.
• Minimize scrap and material waste through proper material utilization and production practices.
• Coordinate with supervisors and other departments regarding production priorities and material requirements.
• Assist with material movement using appropriate lifting equipment and follow established material-handling procedures.
• Perform routine cleaning, inspection, and basic operator maintenance of the Python system and surrounding work area.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation.
• Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.
• Immediately report unsafe conditions, equipment malfunctions, injuries, or production concerns to supervision.
• Assist other production departments as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Quality Responsibilities

• Ensure all processed steel meets drawing and production specifications.
• Verify dimensions and cuts before material is released to the next production process.
• Maintain proper identification and traceability of materials and parts.
• Identify and communicate quality concerns promptly.
• Take responsibility for producing accurate, consistent, and production-ready components.

Safety Responsibilities

Safety is a fundamental responsibility of the Python Operator. The employee must follow all company safety procedures and properly use required PPE.

The operator must remain aware of hazards associated with automated machinery, moving steel, cutting operations, overhead lifting equipment, forklifts, pinch points, sharp edges, noise, and other manufacturing hazards.

Qualifications

• Previous experience operating automated cutting, CNC, fabrication, or manufacturing equipment preferred.
• Experience in structural steel fabrication or a similar industrial manufacturing environment is preferred.
• Ability to read and understand fabrication drawings, measurements, cut lists, and work instructions.
• Strong basic math and measurement skills.
• Ability to use tape measures and other precision measuring tools.
• Basic computer skills and ability to learn machine-control software.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot basic equipment issues.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
• Ability to work independently while also working effectively as part of a production team.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality are essential.
• Willingness to learn new equipment, processes, and manufacturing techniques.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and work around large steel components.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials or equipment as required.
• Ability to work around heavy machinery, moving steel, overhead cranes, forklifts, and other manufacturing equipment.
• Ability to wear required PPE for the duration of the work shift.
• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, varying temperatures, and industrial equipment.

Work Environment

The Python Operator works primarily in a steel manufacturing and fabrication facility. The position involves working around heavy steel, automated machinery, overhead lifting equipment, forklifts, welding operations, and other production activities.
