About C.I. Construction
C.I. Construction, LLC is a fourth-generation, family-owned development, design-build, and construction management firm based in Alexandria, Minnesota. We build commercial, industrial, multi-family, assisted living, hospitality, retail, and mixed-use projects, mostly in West-Central Minnesota, with additional work across greater Minnesota and the Fargo-Moorhead area.
We're known for:
- Being early adopters of construction technology
- High standards for jobsite safety, organization, and professionalism
- Working with owners, designers, and trades as partners, not adversaries
- A workplace that values competence, accountability, and a good sense of humor
We've played nearly every role in this industry: trade contractor, supplier, developer, owner, designer, GC, and CM. We hire people who understand that success looks different depending on where you stand on the job.
The Role
You'll support our Superintendents and project teams by handling general conditions, jobsite logistics, temporary construction, light carpentry, and selective demolition.
If you like variety, autonomy, and being the person who keeps the job running smoothly day to day, this role is a strong fit. The carpentry is light: blocking, backing, temporary construction, and repairs. If you want to frame walls or run finish trim all day, this probably isn't your fit.
Travel
- Based out of Alexandria, MN
- Most work falls within a radius that includes Minneapolis-St. Paul and Fargo
- Some projects require overnight stays. When they do, you receive $60/day per diem, including travel days, and CI pays for your hotel.
- When it's feasible, we build in flexibility so you can get home, even on longer-distance projects
- Mileage paid for travel to out-of-town jobs
What You'll Do
General conditions and jobsite support:
- Set up, maintain, and tear down jobsites
- Install temporary construction and protection: dust control, floor and wall protection, temporary partitions, and weather protection
- Keep the jobsite clean, organized, and safe
- Handle material, deliveries, and site logistics
- Support Superintendents with daily jobsite needs
- Coordinate professionally with subcontractors
Light carpentry and repairs:
- Blocking, backing, and miscellaneous carpentry
- Minor door and hardware adjustments
- Punch-list repairs and touchups
- Temporary doors, partitions, and protection
Other work:
- Selective demolition of walls, ceilings, flooring, and finishes
- Equipment operation as certified (scissor lift, boom lift, forklift, skid steer)
What We're Looking For
- Construction, laborer, or carpentry experience preferred
- Able to take direction, prioritize tasks, and adapt throughout the day
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
- Familiar with common construction tools and jobsite expectations
- Equipment certifications a plus, but not required. We'll pay to certify you.
- Able to occasionally lift 50 lbs
- Valid driver's license
Where This Can Lead
We're hiring for the long haul. You'll see every phase of a commercial job, from site setup to punch list, and we promote from within. Show us what you can do and you can move into an assistant superintendent role, join our steel erection crew, or step into whatever field role fits you best.
Schedule
- Full time, Monday through Friday
- 8-hour shifts, overtime available
- In-person work
Who This Role Is Great For
- Someone who prefers variety over repetitive production work
- A dependable, self-directed worker who notices what needs doing
- A problem-solver who takes pride in keeping jobsites running smoothly
- Someone interested in growing within commercial construction
- A person who works hard, communicates clearly, and doesn't take themselves too seriously
Extra Credit (Not Required, But Appreciated)
- Prefers Johnny Cash over Kenny Chesney
- Wears blaze orange outside of hunting
- Doesn't count mulligans when golfing
- Still isn't over watching Darnold win a Super Bowl in Seattle
- Knows the difference between "that'll hold" and "that's not going anywhere"
