Summary
The Grade Crossing Monitor is an entry-level position with CDL Railroad Services. This role is responsible for
ensuring the safe and efficient movement of vehicle traffic through temporary private rail crossings. The position
serves as an introduction to railroad work and provides opportunities to begin learning the fundamentals of the
Roadway Worker in Charge (RWIC) role.
Preferred Experiences:
- No prior railroad experience required (training will be provided).
- Must be alert, safety-conscious, and reliable.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Strong communication and situational awareness skills
- Ability to work full-time in field conditions, including exposure to weather and active construction sites.
- A strong work ethic with a commitment to safety and compliance.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitor vehicle traffic through temporary private rail crossings.
- Ensure the safety of all travelers at the crossing.
- Flag and direct public traffic as trains or construction activities occur.
- Complete daily reports detailing activities and observations.
- Perform other assigned by leadership team.

Working Conditions:
- Full-time, field-based position on active railroad right-of-way.
- Frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind.
- Work is conducted within active construction areas, with a focus on safety and situational awareness.
- Extended hours, weekends, holidays, and travel may be required depending on project assignments.
Physical Demands:
- Willingness to travel for projects and work in a variety of railroad and utility environments.
- Standing, walking on uneven surfaces, bending, kneeling and/or sitting for long periods of time.
- Lift/Moving 50 pounds repeatedly.
- Working in adverse weather conditions
