Construction Controller

C. A. Rasmussen is a well-established general engineering contractor based in Valencia, California and we’re looking for a Controller with construction accounting experience.

This is a hands-on leadership role overseeing all financial functions — from job costing and WIP reporting to budgeting, compliance, and team management. You’ll report directly to ownership and work closely with project management to keep the financial engine running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations (GL, AP/AR, payroll, job cost, etc.)
• Maintain accurate financial records and produce monthly financials
• Manage WIP schedules and support project managers with cost tracking and forecasting
• Conduct monthly and year-end closing with efficiency
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal controls
• Interface with external CPAs, banks, bonding agents, and insurance
• Supervise and develop a team of accounting professionals, ensuring continuous growth and development
• Recommend and implement process improvements and system upgrades

Requirements:

• 8 years of progressive accounting experience in construction
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or similar (CPA a plus)
• Strong grasp of job cost accounting, WIP, and % of completion methods
• Proficiency in construction accounting software (e.g. Viewpoint-Vista, HCSS, etc.)
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
• Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills
