What are the responsibilities and job description for the Social Media Marketing Intern position at BZAR?
About BZAR
BZAR is the operating system for community commerce. We bring local vendors, event organizers, and community members onto one platform — giving vendors real tools to run and grow their business, helping organizers run their markets and events end to end, and making it easy for people to discover and buy from the businesses inside their own community.
We're an early-stage, founder-led startup building something our community actually needs. We move fast, build in public, and care about creativity, entrepreneurship, and collaboration and we give our team real ownership from day one.
How We Work
We're an AI-native company, and we mean it. We use AI to multiply what a small team can ship — compressing research, automating the repetitive, and speeding up production. We build internal systems and feedback loops that get sharper every sprint, across engineering, GTM, and marketing. The goal is simple: move faster than a team our size has any right to.
But moving fast with AI is only half the skill. The other half is judgment — knowing when AI gets you most of the way there, and when a task demands a human: taste, originality, and a real read on the community we serve. The content that actually lands with people isn't generated on default settings, and we're looking for someone who knows the difference.
The Role
The Social Media Marketing Intern is a hybrid role based in Northern Virginia. You'll work directly with the founding team to plan, create, and publish content that grows BZAR's brand and community — with a heavy focus on short-form video (Instagram Reels). This is a hands-on role for someone who lives on social, understands internet culture, and wants real ownership of content from idea to post.
Responsibilities
- Help plan and maintain the content calendar.
- Create and edit short-form video and graphics — trend-driven hooks, vendor and event highlights, and behind-the-scenes / build-in-public content.
- Write captions and on-screen copy in BZAR's voice.
- Engage the community: respond to comments and DMs, and help build relationships with vendors and followers.
- Track performance, pull insights, and pitch ideas to grow reach, engagement, and followers.
- Capture and produce content on-site at markets, pop-ups, and events.
- Build and improve internal content workflows — prompts, templates, and AI-assisted systems — so the team produces better content, faster, over time.
Qualifications
- Passionate about our mission at BZAR
- A genuine interest in social media and digital marketing, with an instinct for what makes content perform.
- A genuine AI power user — fluent with tools like Claude, ChatGPT, and AI image/video generation, and you reach for them instinctively to work faster and sharper.
- Strong judgment on where AI helps and where it doesn't — you can take an AI draft most of the way and know when to step in with your own creativity and taste.
- Hands-on with short-form video and simple graphic editing (Canva, CapCut, or Adobe tools).
- Strong writing and communication skills — clear captions, professional messaging, and easy collaboration.
- Active and fluent across major platforms (TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn) and comfortable with their built-in analytics.
- Ability to learn and execute quickly
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in marketing, communications, business, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable in a fast-paced, hybrid startup environment.
- Drawn to community, events, small business, or marketplace platforms — a plus if you're plugged into your local community or culture scene.
What You'll Gain
- Real ownership of content for a growing brand. Your work goes live, it doesn't sit in a folder.
- Direct mentorship from the founders.
- A portfolio of short-form video and real campaign results.
- A front-row seat to building a startup from zero and a team that genuinely runs on AI.
