About the Team
ByteDance Networking brings together innovative ideas and technologies from network architecture, software defined networking (SDN), network virtualization, switch software and hardware co-design, and high-speed networking, to create hyper-scale data-center networking solutions that power several of the most popular apps of the world such as Douyin and TikTok which serve hundreds of millions of users around the globe.
ByteDance Networking is responsible for designing, building, and operating the global, intelligent network infrastructure to meet the requirements of high availability, scalability, and high-performance. By joining this team, you will gain marketable software development and/or network operation experiences in data center networking at massive scale.
Responsibilities:
1. Design, develop, and test core functionalities of the Network Operating System (NOS) underpinning ByteDance's hyperscale data center networks and AI infrastructure.
2. Research and implement next-generation switch software focusing on network monitoring, telemetry, load balancing, congestion control, and system reliability.
3. Design and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks for the NOS.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience in network software development or network device SDK development.
- Proficiency in C/C and Python, with a strong grasp of data structures and algorithms.
- Passion for network technology and a track record of maintaining high standards for code quality and architectural design.
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep understanding of Ethernet switch architecture and NOS design
- Hands-on experience with SONiC and SAI is highly preferred.
- Experience in switch ASIC validation using industry-standard traffic generators (e.g., Keysight/Ixia, Spirent)
- Publications in accredited networking conferences (SIGCOMM, NSDI, etc.) or contributions to open-source communities (SONiC, OCP, SAI).

【For Pay Transparency】Compensation Description (Annually)
The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $156000 - $387600 annually.
Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and the country work location. Employees have day one access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) savings plan with company match, paid parental leave, short-term and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, among others. Employees also receive 10 paid holidays per year, 10 paid sick days per year and 17 days of Paid Personal Time (prorated upon hire with increasing accruals by tenure).
