Food Safety Specialist

PURPOSE OF POSITON

We are seeking a detail-oriented Food Safety Specialist to ensure that our food products comply with safety regulations and quality standards. The ideal candidate will be responsible for conducting inspections, implementing safety policies, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal food safety laws. This role is critical in maintaining high food safety standards and protecting public health.

Key Responsibilities

The list below contains tasks that are typically associated with the job.  It is not all-inclusive and may vary.

• Travel to store locations across NYS to assist in routine inspections of food processing, handling, and storage areas to ensure compliance with food safety protocols.
• Work with store management and staff to identify and address specific issues.
• Provide hands-on assistance in ensuring compliance with food safety protocols and quality standards.
• Assist in providing on-site training to store teams on proper food safety practices, hygiene, and quality control procedures.
• Assist in distributing food safety materials and guidelines to store teams.
• Assist in completing follow-up audit reports and tracking progress of corrective actions across multiple store locations.
• Maintain detailed records of store visits, audit findings, corrective measures, and the completion of required actions.
• Prepare and submit regular updates on the status of store compliance to the Food Safety & Quality Control Manager.
• Perform spot checks to assess food safety and quality standards and provide feedback to store management on any areas needing improvement.
• Act as a liaison between the Food Safety & Quality Control Manager and store teams to ensure clear communication of food safety goals and expectations.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in food safety processes across store locations.

REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma or equivalent; a bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Safety or a related field is preferred.
• Previous experience in food safety, quality control or related role is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of food safety regulations and local food safety laws.
• Ability to travel to various store locations within NYS (valid NYS driver’s license)
• Ability to stand, walk, and occasionally lift up to 50lbs
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively while traveling.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to use online reporting tools.
• Must be detail-oriented and organized.

Estimated annual salary: $52,000-$55,000 annually
