What are the responsibilities and job description for the Grounds Maintenance Associate - Veteran Cemetery position at Byrd Enterprises Unlimited?
We are looking for a motivated and reliable individual who can assist with our Grounds Maintenance and Cemetery Headstone Operations at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
This position will work as part of a team to install, maintain, and complete all Grounds and Headstone Operations required by National Veteran Cemetery Standards. Employees MUST be comfortable working outdoors, in all elements and have the ability to lift up to 100 lbs on their own and 200 lbs with their teammate.
You would be responsible for the maintenance of grounds, to include regular mowing, weed eating, edge trimming of roadways, removal of trash, leaves, grave decorations, unsightly floral arrangements and debris, as well as, sweeping/blowing off walkways and roadways, and irrigation system operation, inspection and maintenance. In addition you will perform proper installation, placement, and maintenance of headstones in the cemetery, as well as any other duties assigned by the Project Manager. The role ensures that each headstone is positioned accurately, securely, and in accordance with National Cemetery Association guidelines, while providing respectful and professional service to families during a difficult time.
This position is a year-round position that requires a reliable and detail-oriented individual who can work diligently with a team. This position will be full-time with growth opportunities.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in construction, landscaping, or a similar field is preferred.
- Knowledge of cemetery operations and headstone installation techniques is a plus.
- Ability to operate heavy machinery and hand tools safely and efficiently.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions precisely.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects.
