Chief Technology Officer

The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) is responsible for driving Bypass Smartways’ technology vision and execution.

This is a senior, full-time leadership role, based at Stanford, CA or Hybrid in Nairobi, Kenya.

The CTO will:

• Define and execute the company’s overall technology and product architecture strategy.
• Lead engineering, data, and security teams in building a deterministic fiscal compliance state machine.
• Ensure that all software development aligns with regulatory, operational, and commercial goals.
• Collaborate with executive leadership to deliver high-impact, audit-grade solutions.
• Balance innovation with disciplined engineering — transforming complexity into clarity, and compliance into value.

• Proven proficiency in software development and product engineering.
• Experience in project management and IT strategy execution.
• Demonstrated expertise in system architecture and infrastructure design.
• Strong leadership and decision-making skills in fast-paced environments.
• Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Prior experience in fintech, regtech, or compliance automation is a strong advantage.
• Experience leading distributed or hybrid engineering teams is preferred.
