Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Daytime Manual Lathe Operator to join our manufacturing team at Byford Machine-Tool in. As a key player in our production line, you will operate manual lathes during daytime shifts, ensuring that components meet strict specifications and quality standards. Duties
- Set up and operate manual lathes with precision to produce metal components according to detailed blueprints and technical drawings.
- Interpret mechanical blueprints and manufacturing specifications to determine machining requirements.
- Use measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines to ensure parts meet quality standards.
- Perform machine setup, including tooling selection, M-code programming (machine code for CNC machines), and calibration for accurate production runs.
- Conduct quality inspections using precision measuring instruments, ensuring adherence to GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) standards.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment by following safety protocols related to hand tools, power tools, grinders, and welding equipment.
- Collaborate with team members on continuous improvement initiatives like lean manufacturing practices and process optimization.
Experience
- Proven experience operating manual lathes or CNC lathe machines in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to interpret blueprints and mechanical drawings accurately.
- Familiarity with CNC programming languages such as G-code and M-code, along with CNC quality inspection procedures.
- Skilled in using precision measurement tools including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines for quality control.
- Knowledge of machining tools, tooling setup, machine calibration, and basic math skills necessary for precise machining tasks.
- Experience working with CNC milling machines or grinders is a plus but not required.
- Ability to work safely with hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, forklifts, and other manufacturing machinery.
