Technicians are responsible for the electronics aboard an aircraft as well as the wiring that connects to the electrical system. Technicians run cables, mount antennas, and connect instruments for navigation and engine monitoring as well as installing new and used systems.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Adjust, repair, or replace malfunctioning components or assemblies,

  • Assemble components such as switches, electrical controls, and junction boxes, using hand tools and soldering irons

  • Connect components to assemblies such as radio systems, instruments, magnetos, inverters, and in-flight refueling systems, using hand tools and soldering irons

  • Install electrical and electronic components, assemblies, and systems in aircraft, using hand tools, power tools, and/or soldering irons

  • Interpret flight test data in order to diagnose malfunctions and systemic performance problems

  • Lay out installation of aircraft assemblies and systems, following documentation such as blueprints, manuals, and wiring diagrams

  • Test and troubleshoot instruments, components, and assemblies, using circuit testers, oscilloscopes, and voltmeters

  • Assemble prototypes or models of circuits, instruments, and systems so that they can be used for testing

  • Coordinate work with that of engineers, technicians, and other aircraft maintenance personnel

  • Fabricate parts and test aids as required

  • Keep records of maintenance and repair work

  • Operate computer-aided drafting and design applications to design avionics system modifications

  • Set up and operate ground support and test equipment to perform functional flight tests of electrical and electronic systems


Qualifications

  • Must possess a valid real ID driver's license, submit to drug & alcohol screening requirements, and submit to an airport security background check
  • Ability to think critically and problem solve; the ability to determine what causes a complex problem and determine solutions or options with possible fixes
  • Be able to discern varying situations and problems, including judgment, logic and reasoning, help technicians figure out the best repair option
  • Experience using hand tools and soldering irons
  • Be detail-oriented to adjust airplane systems and controls to exact specifications
  • Effectively communicate descriptions of problems and options
  • Be able to speak, read, write, and understand English
  • Experience strongly desired

Ideal candidates have a strong background and work history performing avionics repairs, installations, and modifications on general aviation piston singles, twins, turboprops and light jets.

Byerly Aviation, located at the Peoria's General Wayne A Downing International Airport (KPIA), offers customers a full range of services. Byerly offers aircraft charter services under the FAA Part 135 license. Our FBO also offers aircraft sales and brokerage services, aircraft maintenance and avionics, aircraft paint services as well as supplying fuel, both into-plane and retail, deicing and hangar services. Byerly also offers ground support equipment maintenance and refurbishment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include, close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
