Position Summary
The Accounting Associate plays a key role in supporting Bydand’s clients by performing day-to-day accounting, system setup, and relationship management activities. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who enjoys solving problems, providing excellent customer service, and learning the fundamentals of oil and gas accounting. The Accounting Associate will work closely with senior accountants, client contacts, and internal leadership to ensure accurate financial records and timely client service.
Key Responsibilities
Owner Relations:
- Serve as a primary point of contact for royalty and working interest owners regarding payment information, revenue inquiries, and ownership changes.
- Research and resolve owner issues related to check details, address updates, and methods of payment.
- Coordinate with land and division order personnel to process ownership transfers and maintain accurate owner records.
- Support Accounts Payable as needed, reconciling vendor statements and resolving discrepancies.
Business Associate Setup & Maintenance:
- Create and maintain vendor, purchaser, and owner records in the accounting system.
- Perform Tax ID matching and ensure compliance with IRS reporting requirements.
- Collect and manage W-9s and related documentation.
Property and Cost Center Setup:
- Set up and maintain accurate records for wells, facilities, leases, and associated cost centers within the accounting system.
- Create new AFEs in the accounting system, ensuring each is assigned the correct cost center, asset classification, and expenditure type for accurate capitalization and expense tracking.
General Accounting Duties:
- Support month-end close activities, including reconciliations and data entry.
- Maintain organized electronic documentation and audit trails.
- Assist with year-end reporting, including 1099s and other compliance filings.
- Prepare and mail checks and invoices as needed.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and client service delivery.
- Participate in team training and contribute to knowledge-sharing within the IAS group.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
- 0–3 years of relevant accounting experience (oil and gas experience preferred).
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems (experience with Enertia or similar platforms a plus).
- Excellent communication skills and professional demeanor in handling client and owner inquiries.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Work Location:
This is a full-time, in-office position based in Tulsa, OK. The role requires regular presence in the office to collaborate with teammates and support clients effectively.
