Location: On-site in Lynchburg, Virginia

Your Day to Day as a Chemistry Lab Technician:

• Performs established analytical chemistry determinations in a Quality Control Chemistry /lab - work is predominantly inorganic in nature.

• Follows written and verbal instructions to meet required precision and accuracy requirements.

• Maintains process and procedural qualification in area of cognizance.

• Weighs, measures and mixes both Uranium (for TRISO applications) and non-Uranium containing chemicals.

• Performs sample preparation through weighing, dissolving, diluting and furnace treating samples.

• Operates analytical instruments such as ICP-OES, ICP-MS, XRF, Pycnometers, Surface Area Analyzers, automated titration units and IC units.

• Oversees, troubleshoots and performs established analytical chemistry determinations consistently and accurately.

• Trains new quality control technicians to perform analytical chemistry determinations.

• Perform calculations to complete assignments.

• Reviews and comments on existing procedures and assists in generating new analytical procedures.
• Participates on process improvement teams.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• A minimum of an Associate's Degree in technical field OR a high school diploma with four (4) years of relevant experience.
• Experience working with electronics/electrical equipment
• Proven ability to work with high level of attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Demonstrated experience working in a team environment.
• Self-motivated. Shows initiative with minimal supervision.
• Proficiency on MS Word, Excel and/or comparable programs.
• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

• A strong background in mechanics is highly preferred.

• Experience performing preventative maintenance on instruments/equipment is highly desired.

• Experience in a quality control analytical laboratory (preferred inorganic in nature) is desired.

• Experience operating analytical instruments such as ICP-OES, ICP-MS, XRF, Pycnometers, Surface Area Analyzers, automated titration units and IC units is desired.

• Experience with Laboratory Information Management System is desired.
