What are the responsibilities and job description for the R&D Coordinator (Food & Beverage) position at BWS: Wellness Solutions House?
BWS is seeking a detail-oriented R&D Coordinator to serve as the technical execution lead for our NYC innovation hub in Brooklyn, NYC. Reporting directly to the Chief Food Scientist, you will be responsible for transforming complex formulas into precise benchtop prototypes. This is a hands-on role focused on scientific rigor, repeatability, and maintaining the high-output "work engine" required to scale multiple clients' projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Formula Execution: Precisely weigh and batch raw materials using laboratory scales to create benchtop samples based on technical formulations.
- Technical Analysis: Operate and calibrate specialized R&D equipment, including pH meters, Brix refractometers, and Bostwick consistometers to ensure every prototype meets specific physical and chemical parameters.
- Organoleptic Evaluation: Conduct initial sensory reviews (appearance, aroma, taste, and texture) of all prototypes. You will be responsible for prepping "gold standard" samples for executive and stakeholder review.
- Lab Stewardship: Maintain a sterile, organized, and fully stocked lab environment. Manage the R&D sample library and ingredient inventory.
- Documentation: Record all analytical data and batch observations with extreme accuracy to ensure seamless transitions from benchtop to commercial production.
Qualifications:
- Education: Degree in Food Science, Culinary Arts, Chemistry, Biology, Nutrition, or a related field with hands on testing experience.
- Experience: Proven experience in a food lab, or professional R&D environment.
- Technical Proficiency: Mastery of the metric system, precision measurement, and standard lab safety protocols.
- Mindset: A high degree of "operational discipline"—you take pride in the accuracy and consistency of your benchwork.
