We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Accounting Specialist / Accountant to join our finance team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing a wide range of accounting functions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards, and supporting financial reporting processes. 1. Financial Transactions & Reporting
- Prepare and maintain general ledger entries
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Reconcile bank statements and financial discrepancies
- Assist in monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
2. Budgeting & Forecasting
- Support preparation of annual budgets and forecasts
- Monitor departmental spending vs. budget allocations
- Analyze financial data and provide variance reports
3. Compliance & Audits
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
- Assist with internal and external audits
- Maintain documentation for audit readiness
4. Payroll & Expense Management
- Support payroll processing and employee reimbursements
- Review expense reports for accuracy and policy compliance
5. Grants & Funding Management
- Track government grants and funding allocations
- Ensure proper accounting of federal/state transportation funds
- Prepare financial reports related to grant usage
6. System & Process Improvement
- Maintain accounting systems (ERP/financial software)
- Identify and implement process improvements for efficiency
- Support automation and reporting enhancements
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Reconcile bank statements and financial discrepancies
- Assist in monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA or progress toward CPA (preferred)
Experience
- 3–5 years of accounting experience (public sector preferred)
- Experience with government or transportation authority accounting is a plus
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of GAAP
- Experience with accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks)
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas, reporting)
Soft Skills

Pay: $57,967.23 - $69,810.00 per year
