Position Summary:
As Liquor Store Manager, you will oversee all aspects of the store’s day-to-day operations. You will manage inventory, staff, merchandising, compliance, and customer experience. A strong working knowledge of wines — including varietals, regions, food pairings, and customer recommendations — is essential to elevate the store’s service and product expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage daily store operations, including opening/closing procedures, cash handling, and store security.
- Supervise, hire, train, schedule, and lead store staff.
- Maintain high store standards with clean, organized, and visually appealing product displays.
- Oversee inventory: ordering, receiving, organizing deliveries, rotating stock, and maintaining optimal product levels.
- Advise customers on wine selections, understand major wine regions and varietals, and train staff on wine basics.
- Develop merchandising strategies, promotions, and pricing adjustments to maximize profitability.
- Ensure strict compliance with New York State liquor laws (ID checks, hours of sale, licensing rules).
- Provide exceptional customer service, resolve issues, handle special orders, and build long-term customer relationships.
- Track daily sales, manage POS operations, maintain financial and inventory records, and work towards sales targets.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in business, hospitality, or related field preferred.
- Strong knowledge of wines (red, white, sparkling, rosé, dessert wines), wine regions (domestic and international), and ability to make customer recommendations confidently.
- Prior retail management experience—liquor, wine, gourmet, or hospitality preferred.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Familiarity with NY State alcohol regulations.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to lift/move boxes and cases of product.
- Basic proficiency with POS systems and inventory software.
