Description:
Our client is seeking a senior international tax leader to drive global tax strategy, planning, and execution across its international subsidiaries. This role sits at the intersection of tax, finance, legal, and the business, with direct visibility to senior leadership. You will own complex cross-border planning, inform how we scale into new markets, and ensure our structures, IP, and cash flows are optimized and compliant in a rapidly evolving global tax environment.
This position is ideal for someone who is hands-on, highly analytical, deeply technical on U.S. and international rules, and comfortable operating as both strategic advisor and execution owner.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning & Structuring
- Design and implement global tax strategies that align with business objectives, minimize ETR, and optimize cash flow across key jurisdictions.
- Advise on new market entries, legal entity structures, IP and supply chain planning, financing, and holding structures.
- Support M&A, JV, and strategic transactions, including due diligence, structuring, integration, and post-deal optimization.
- Evaluate tax impacts of emerging rules (e.g., Pillar Two / BEPS 2.0, digital services taxes, global minimum tax) and recommend practical responses.
U.S. International & Cross-Border Tax
- Serve as a subject matter expert on U.S. international tax provisions, including GILTI, Subpart F, FDII, FTCs, E&P, 163(j), sourcing, and anti-hybrid / anti-deferral regimes
- Advise on intercompany transactions: services, royalties, cost sharing, financing, and other cross-border arrangements in coordination with transfer pricing.
- Partner with the transfer pricing and legal teams to design and maintain sustainable, well-documented global TP policies.
Tax Provision, Compliance & Governance
- Partner with Tax Reporting to model and explain ASC 740 impacts of international positions and planning initiatives.
- Oversee U.S. international compliance (e.g., 5471, 8858, 8865, 8992, 8993, 1118) and foreign filings in coordination with external advisors and internal teams.
- Support and defend international positions in audits; manage external advisors in a cost-effective, outcome-focused way.
- Develop and maintain tax risk frameworks, documentation, and policies to support a strong global tax control environment.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Act as a core advisor to Finance, Treasury, Legal, Corporate Development, and Business Units on tax implications of strategic decisions.
- Build clear, decision-ready materials (models, memos, decks) translating complex tax concepts into practical business recommendations.
- Mentor and develop team members; help shape the broader tax function for scale.
Qualifications:
Required
- 10-15 years of progressive experience in international tax with a mix of Big 4 and/or top-tier law firm experience; and/or in-house experience at a multinational or high-growth company.
- Deep technical expertise in U.S. international rules (GILTI, Subpart F, FDII, FTCs, E&P, 163(j), 367, 861–865, 7874, etc.), cross-border structuring, IP/holding company planning and financing, and application of international tax concepts to real-world operations.
- Strong experience with tax planning, modeling, and scenario analysis; comfort owning complex Excel/Sheets models.
- Proven track record partnering with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to execute tax strategies.
- Experience leading or overseeing U.S. international compliance and ASC 740 aspects related to international operations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA, JD, and/or LLM in Tax or Master of Taxation strongly preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to draft clear technical memos and explain positions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred
- Prior leadership of a small team or coaching/mentoring senior tax staff.
- Familiarity with major ERP and tax systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Alteryx, Onesource, Corptax).
Compensation & Benefits:
The base salary for this position ranges from $200,000 to $250,000 per year, depending on various factors, including education and experience. In addition to competitive pay, the client offers a discretionary bonus program based on individual and firm performance.
