Hello!

We are Butternut Bakehouse, a bakery serving charming, rustic handcrafted pastries located on Mass Ave in Arlington on the 77 bus line. Due to our focus on quality small-batch baked goods, and our community-centric customer service, our business is growing, and our team is expanding. We are seeking passionate front of house team members eager to cultivate a creative, fun, and consistent café environment.

Our counter service baristas at Butternut are the first faces neighbors see when they are greeted at the cafe, and their ultimate goal is to enhance the customer experience. The front of house team welcomes customers, takes and fulfills food and drink orders, makes and serves drinks, and keeps a clean and well-stocked workspace.

A successful applicant is friendly, outgoing, and will have customer service skills as well as attention to detail, and be a proactive, community-oriented team player. Barista skills are a plus but not required! We will train anybody we hire within the first month to learn how to make perfectly curated espresso beverages. (Yes ~ this includes learning to able to make beautiful latte art!)

Responsibilities

● Take orders from customers and be knowledgeable in products
● Pack products for customers with care
● Make precise hot/cold beverages – coffee, tea, espresso drinks
● Accurately handle cash and credit card transactions
● Make sure counter and chilled case is clean, arranged and well stocked
● Help clean service and customer areas – includes mopping, wiping, bathroom upkeep

Requirements
● Strong customer service skills
● Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced service environment
● Self-motivated and able to find ways to be productive during down time
● Able to work as a team
● Passion for food, baked goods and a positive attitude
● Ability to stand and walk for a full shift, including stairs
● Ability to use hands, wrists, and fingers to operate the espresso machine, cash register, etc.
● Ability to bend, squat, twist, and reach above shoulder level and below waist level, for example, to grab boxes or cups

Shift Availability

This role is available part-time as we are mainly searching for Arlington High School applicants to be able to come in after school and weekends!

We are currently open Tuesday through Friday 7am to 4pm, and Saturday/Sunday 8am to 2pm. We are looking for team members who are available to work after school and weekends! This typically looks like 2 weekday closing shifts and one longer weekend day shift on either Saturday or Sunday!

Opening shifts on weekdays begin at 6am. Weekday closing shifts run from 3pm and are out around 5pm typically. Weekend shifts are either open to close or a half day shift!

Possible shifts include
● Tuesday - Friday | Closing Shifts, 2 hrs (2pm or 3pm - 5pm)
● Saturday/Sunday | Full day or half day, 5.5 - 8 hrs (9:30am - 3pm / 7am - 3pm)

Compensation and Benefits

● Counter service Barista: base pay, plus cash tips. Pay based on experience.
● Free drinks, and select pastries, on shift
● Paid time off
● Employees that work over 30 hours per week are eligible for health, vision, and dental benefits

Pay: $16.00 - $18.50 per hour
