FLSA Status & Classification: Non-Exempt | Full-Time
Schedule: General hours of work are 8am to 5:30pm on assigned days. Assigned days are dependent on store needs and weekend availability is a requirement. Participation in monthly all-staff meetings is a requirement. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by event schedules.
Starting Hourly Rate: $18.00/hour

Position Summary: As the Retail Operations Lead, you play a key role in ensuring the efficient and successful operation of Butterfly Pavilion’s Gift Shop. This position is responsible for managing product receiving and organization while supporting front-of-house retail operations and delivering an exceptional guest experience.
Primary responsibilities include receiving, tagging, organizing and transporting merchandise delivered to Butterfly Pavilion’s offsite warehouse in Broomfield, CO. In addition, the Retail Operations Lead supports the shop floor at our Westminster, CO location as needed and develops proficiency in lead and sales associate duties.
This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to balance behind-the-scenes operations with guest-facing responsibilities. On the sales floor, the Retail Operations Lead helps create welcoming, memorable guest experiences, supports sales goals, and encourages repeat visitation through knowledgeable and engaging customer service.
The Retail Operations Lead is expected to maintain a working understanding of Butterfly Pavilion’s mission and programs, including education, research, and conservation efforts and to confidently connect those initiatives to the guest’s retail experience.
Success in this role is grounded in delivering a world-class guest experience while supporting the three pillars of Butterfly Pavilion’s Gift Shop: People, Planet, and Profit.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

Retail Sales Floor Operations:
- Maintain strong working knowledge of the retail POS system and all store products, and confidently share that knowledge with staff and volunteers.
- Ensure every guest has a positive experience in the Gift Shop by offering a warm welcome, providing assistance as needed, and thanking guests as they depart.
- Retail Leadership:
- Support and help coordinate merchandising, sales initiatives, and day-to-day retail activities to meet operational and revenue goals.

Opening/Closing:
- Open and close registers, the Gift Shop, and/or the facility as assigned, following established procedures and security standards.
- Warehouse Operations and Leadership:
- Work independently at the offsite warehouse in Broomfield, CO, making sound decisions and problem-solving as needed to keep operations running smoothly.
- Cascade relevant updates and operational information to the Inventory Coordinator, Senior Retail General Manager, and other colleagues as appropriate.
- Receiving & Inventory Support:
- Receive, record, tag, organize and prepare shipments at the offsite warehouse, including assembling restock loads for return transportation to Butterfly Pavilion.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse environment while maximizing storage efficiency; manage trash and recycling as needed.
- Transport product between the offsite warehouse in Broomfield, CO to Butterfly Pavilion in Westminster, CO as required.
- Reporting Structure:
- Report directly to the Senior Retail General Manager and work closely with the Inventory Coordinator.
Position Qualifications and Experience:
- 1-2 years of experience in a retail and/or food service customer-facing role.
- Driver’s license and the ability to drive to and from our offsite warehouse.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; some post-secondary education preferred.
- Strong technology skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, and the ability to learn and operate retail POS and inventory systems (Clover and Yellow Dog).
- Demonstrated ability to deliver excellent customer service, with experience in merchandising, stocking, visual merchandising, inventory management and cash handling.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and work efficiently in a dynamic environment.
- Proven problem solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot issues and identify practical, creative solutions.
- High attention to detail, particularly in product tagging, organization and inventory accuracy.
- Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with staff, volunteers, guests, and vendors.

Physical Requirements
The physical requirements below reflect the demands associated with performing the essential functions of this role.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods while working on the retail floor and at the offsite warehouse.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move merchandise weighing up to approximately 40-50 pounds.
- Ability to reach with arms and hands, climb and balance on step stools or ladders, and perform repetitive motions related to stocking, tagging, and organizing merchandise.
- Ability to work in warehouse spaces that may include tight storage areas and the ability to crouch, bend, stoop, kneel, and crawl.
- Ability to safely load, unload, and transport merchandise between Butterfly Pavilion and the offsite warehouse.
- While performing the responsibilities of the Retail Operations Lead, the employee is required to talk and listen. The employee is often required to lift, sit, and use his or her hands and fingers, to handle or feel. The vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
