Part-time Caregiver for School-Aged Child with Autism

Butterfly Home Care of Manassas is seeking a patient, dependable, and compassionate caregiver to provide one-on-one support to a school-aged child with autism in the Gainesville/Warrenton area.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with children, understands the importance of consistency and routine, and wants to help a young person become more independent with everyday activities.

Butterfly Home Care of Manassas is a locally owned and operated, veteran-owned and woman-operated home care organization. We provide person-centered support that focuses on each individual's strengths, preferences, abilities, goals, and independence.

Shifts Available

Monday through Friday

• Morning: 6:30 AM – 8:30 AM

• Afternoon/Evening: 2:30 PM – 8:30 PM

• Weekend Shifts as needed

Applicants should be able to reliably commit to the scheduled hours for the assignment.

What Support May Look Like

Each day may look a little different based on the child's needs, routine, preferences, and goals. The caregiver will provide one-on-one support while encouraging participation, building everyday skills, and promoting independence whenever possible.

Morning support may include helping the child get ready for the day by assisting with personal hygiene, getting dressed, preparing and eating breakfast, completing morning routines, and staying organized and on schedule.

Afternoon and evening support may include helping the child transition back into the home routine, preparing meals or snacks, practicing cooking and other daily living skills, completing age-appropriate chores, supporting personal care, and participating in preferred activities.

Throughout the day, support may also include:

• Encouraging the child to participate in daily routines rather than completing tasks for them whenever possible

• Teaching and reinforcing self-care and independent living skills

• Providing companionship, conversation, and positive engagement

• Offering patient reminders, encouragement, and redirection

• Supporting predictable routines and transitions

• Helping with bathing, dressing, grooming, and personal hygiene as needed

• Supporting meals, eating routines, and simple food preparation

• Practicing age-appropriate household responsibilities and chores

• Providing appropriate supervision and maintaining a safe environment

• Following the child's individualized care or service plan and established support strategies

• Completing required service documentation

• Communicating significant changes, concerns, or incidents to the supervisory team

Who We're Looking For

The ideal caregiver for this assignment is calm, dependable, patient, encouraging, and comfortable providing consistent structure and support.

Qualifications include:

• Experience working with children with autism or developmental disabilities preferred

• Previous caregiver, Direct Support Professional (DSP), personal care, behavioral support, childcare, or similar experience preferred

• Personal Care Aide (PCA) certification preferred, but not required

• Ability to maintain patience and consistency with daily routines

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to follow written service plans and instructions

• Dependable and able to maintain a consistent weekday schedule

• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation

• Authorization to work in the United States

• Ability to successfully complete required background checks and employment screenings

• Ability to complete required orientation and training

• Respect for individual choice, privacy, dignity, and family preferences

• Ability to safely perform the essential responsibilities of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation
