PHYSICAL THERAPIST ASSISTANT JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Physical Therapist Assistant
OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE: Category III
DEPARTMENT: Rehabilitation
REPORTS TO: Clinic Manager
POSITION SUMMARY: The Physical Therapist Assistant is responsible for providing quality patient care to every patient he/she treats under the direct supervision of a Physical Therapist and in accordance with the standards of care and practice’s policies and procedures as well as state and federal (Medicare) rules and regulations.
RESPONSIBILITES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The Physical Therapist Assistant position requires a minimum of an Associate’s degree in physical therapy as well as state licensure. A thorough knowledge of Medicare and third party billing is also preferred.
JOB SKILLS:
The Physical Therapist Assistant interacts with senior management, peers, clients, families,
visitors, Clinic staff and practice personnel. He/she carries out other tasks as requested in situations where hands on intervention/participation may be required.

POSITION TITLE: Physical Therapist Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY: The Physical Therapist Assistant is responsible for providing quality patient care to every patient he/she treats under the direct supervision of a Physical Therapist and in accordance with the standards of care and practice’s policies and procedures as well as state and federal (Medicare) rules and regulations.
RESPONSIBILITES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Is responsible for providing direct patient care 100% of his/her time unless otherwise specified by the Clinic Manager, with the agreement and understanding that:
- All treatment must be administered under the direction of a physical therapist. Plans of care, interventions, exercises, etc. can only be modified under the direction of a physical therapist.
- Practice’s productivity standards are:
- Every staff therapist assistant should treat an average of 2.0 patients/hour.
- Patients should be treated for an average of 45-60 minutes/visit
- Average units billed/visit should be 3.0-4.0 according to treatment time.
- Staff schedules are created to maximize hours of patient care and patient volume, therefore, schedules may vary from day to day depending on patient need.
- Full time staff will be required to work five days per week (some of those days may be half days) and a minimum of two opening shifts and two closing shifts per week as necessitated by patient volume. The schedule can be modified if the owner agrees.
- Full time staff may be required to work one or two Saturdays per month, depending on need.
- Will comply with request to work at another practice location if/when the occasional need arises unless extenuating circumstances prohibit this.
- If unable to report to work at a scheduled time, the Clinic Manager must be contacted by phone as far in advance as possible to allow time to arrange for coverage, if necessary.
- All time off must be requested in writing and submitted to the Clinic Manager as far in advance as possible to allow time to arrange for coverage, if necessary.
- Is responsible for adhering to practice’s policies and procedures pertaining to customer service and patient care, including but not limited to:
- Completing all evaluations, re-evaluations, daily treatment notes, discharge notes and flow sheets and charges by 10:00 am the following business day after date of service.
- Dressing professionally according to the practice dress code policy.
- Adhering to the practice’s cell phone policy.
- Being prompt and professional at all times.
- Is responsible for adhering to all rules and regulations as outlined in his/her respective State PT Practice Act.
- Is responsible for adhering to all rules and regulations as outlined in the Medicare Benefits Policy Manual.
- Is responsible for attending monthly Clinic staff meetings or if unable to attend, he/she is responsible for obtaining a copy of the written agenda from the Clinic Manager.
- Is responsible for submitting time cards electronically by the 15th and last day of the month.
- Is responsible for promoting all practice products and services whenever possible.
- Is responsible for maintaining valid state PTA licensure, including acquiring all required CEU’s within allotted time renewal period.
- Is responsible for maintaining current CPR certification.
- Performs other related duties as requested.
