Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role located in Indianapolis, IN, for the position of Department Chair at Butler University. The Department Chair will lead and manage departmental operations, including academic program development, faculty evaluations, scheduling, and budgeting. They will oversee faculty recruitment and mentoring while fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for faculty, staff, and students. The Chair will collaborate with university leadership to align departmental goals with institutional priorities and actively promote student success, professional development, and scholarship. Other responsibilities include teaching, research, and service contributions as appropriate to the department’s discipline.


Qualifications

  • Demonstrated leadership and administrative skills, including strategic planning, program development, and team management
  • Experience in teaching, curriculum development, and academic advising at the higher education level
  • Strong scholarly and research background with a track record of publications or creative works
  • Ability to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion within an academic environment
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with budget management and resource allocation for academic programs
  • Commitment to fostering collaborative relationships across different departments and stakeholders
  • Ph.D. or terminal degree in a relevant field and academic credentials commensurate with a tenured faculty appointment
