Heavy Equipment, Diesel Engine Mechanic/ Welder
- Butch Cameron Trucking hauls edible liquid which includes bulk wine, juice and water in tankers and barrels located in Santa Rosa, CA. We are looking for a skilled mechanic and fabricator to perform a variety of fleet maintenance duties and equipment repairs. Under general direction, the individual will be responsible for a fleet of late model Peterbilt power units, bobtails and stainless steel tankers and flatbeds. Primary duties also include BIT inspection, repairs, general maintenance, recordkeeping, also assisting managers and team members with various projects as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform regular equipment inspection and data tracking to maintain BIT compliance
- Monitor performance of power units and trailers and perform regular maintenance duties
- Ensure facility and equipment compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements
- Complete specific fabrication and repair projects as needed
- Maintain work areas in an organized, clean and safe manner and keep facilities ready for inspection by appropriate authorities at all times
- Assemble information to create written reports and documents in a concise, clear, and effective manner
- Oversee yard staff making sure tankers are sanitized as needed
Skills and Abilities:
- Plan, organize and prioritize time and workload in order to accomplish tasks and meet deadlines
- Obtain and source the appropriate equipment, facilities, and materials needed to perform a task
- Operate specialized equipment including the drill press, band saw, iron worker, and pneumatic air wrenches
- Maintain a standard of high quality workmanship in all aspects of repair, fabrication and general maintenance
- Communicate information and ideas clearly in writing
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years experience in similar position and industry
- Thorough knowledge of tools and equipment involved in interstate bulk liquid transportation operations
- Understanding and experience with all aspects of power unit and trailer maintenance and repair including general troubleshooting, electrical and wiring system repair and maintenance, and stainless steel fabrication and repair
- Mechanical skills including but not limited to tire work, brakes and at times service calls
- Demonstrates initiative; a self-starter who works well with, and without, direct supervision and creates an environment of enthusiasm
- Individual demonstrates a high level of personal creativity and the ability to stimulate a creative and proactive environment in the department
- Ability to maintain positive and productive working relationships
- Proficiency with basic computer skills including MS Word and Excel
The work also requires some physical exertion including long periods of standing; walking over rough terrain or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; recurring lifting of moderately heavy items such as tools and equipment. The work may require specific but common physical characteristics and abilities such as lifting up to 50 pounds, above-average agility and dexterity.
