Senior Database Administrator/Engineer

About the Role
The Senior Database Administrator/Engineer will work closely with the Engineering, Architecture, and Operations teams building and supporting our mission-critical database systems as Business Wire undertakes a digital transformation journey. As a member of the DBA team, you will be responsible for defining and supporting new and existing database systems across public cloud and traditional data centers. You will help guide best practices in database administration, data high availability, database management, database design, process improvement, requirements analysis, and the introduction of innovation with a focus on automation.

• Manage the full database lifecycle: initial installation and configuration of database technologies, deployment of engineered system design solutions, daily operations, administration, upgrades, and management of database technologies

• Provide high-end technical DBA support within a variety of Operating Environments (OE) while also supporting/assisting software development and operational teams with database definition, structure, long-range requirements, operational guidelines, and security/integrity controls according to industry best practices

• Propose and implement enhancements to improve performance and reliability within the supported IT environments

• Install, configure, upgrade, and patch Oracle EBS environments including both database and application tiers

• Manage EBS concurrent managers, workflows, and patch application

• Troubleshoot and resolve issues across database and application tiers

• Provide subject matter expertise in performance tuning and administration. Analyze and tune SQL and Oracle EBS

• Perform DDL code reviews and application code reviews for functionality related to a database

• Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution

• Work closely with L1/L2/L3 support teams to proactively identify and resolve issues

• Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation

• 7 years of hands-on Oracle database administration experience in a mission critical 24x7 environment

• Prior software development experience with Java, React, Typescript, Node, Go, or similar

• Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment with an understanding of ITIL

• Experience with full database lifecycle management: upgrades, patching, cloning, backups, and recovery

• Experience with automated database deployment using Jenkins, Ansible, or similar tools

• Experience creating and maintaining enterprise data dictionary

• Experience with ETL processes

• Understanding of Unix operating systems

 

• MySQL database administration experience

• Proven experience managing Oracle EBS environments including installation, patching, cloning, and performance tuning

• 4 years of AWS experience designing and supporting hyper-scale mission critical database architecture

• 2 years proficiency in writing, profiling, and optimizing SQL queries for performance

• 2 years experience creating and maintaining Entity Relationship Diagrams

• Understanding of data warehouses, data marts, data lakes, modeling, and profiling

• Strong understanding of Java, AWS Lambda, and development frameworks

The base salary range for this position is $150K to $165K/year.  Offered salary will be determined by several factors, including but not limited to: applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with geographic market data.  Business Wire reserves the right to modify this salary range at any time.
