About the positionWe are looking for an Application Developer who will provide application development and lifecycle management services to the 08Y-Enterprise Applications group (08Y-EA) within Naval Reactors Headquarters (NRHQ) in support of Naval Reactors (NR) Program work. NRHQ supports the U.S. Navy's nuclear-powered submarines and aircraft carriers by providing clean, safe, and reliable nuclear propulsion. The 08Y-Enterprise Applications (08Y-EA) group within NRHQ develops and maintains custom workflow software that underpins many Naval Reactors (NR) business processes. You will design and code functional programs and applications, producing fully functional software applications according to requirements. You should possess excellent knowledge of at least one programming language and be familiar with a variety of operating systems and platforms. This role requires both independent problem-solving and teamwork within an Agile Scrum development environment.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and implement both new applications and/or databases and enhancements for existing applications and/or databases based on requirements identified in the product backlogDevelop and execute test plans, leveraging automated testing tools when possible, to validate functional requirements are metDraft and revise end-user operational instructions and other technical program documentation as needed for new or revised applicationsProvide maintenance support, including resolution of defects and enhancement requests, for existing applications based on documented requirementsRequirements3 years' experience of working on an Application Developer position - OR - a four-year degree in a relevant concentrationMUST have the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearanceSolid experience in designing and building applicationsClose familiarity with programming for diverse operating systems and platforms using development toolsGood knowledge of software design and programming principlesStrong communication, teamwork, and time-management skillsStrong analytical and problem-solving skills with close attention to detailSpecific development experience with the ServiceNow (SNOW) platform is desired, but not requiredExperience developing web-based applications using Javascript and/or HTML is desired, but not requiredWork Location & ScheduleThe Application Developer role is based on-site at NRHQ in the Washington, D.C. area, including potentially working at other NRHQ-affiliated offices in the National Capital Region. On-site presence is generally required, though routine telework is allowed with prior approval from the Manager of Enterprise Applications.
