Case Evaluation & Client Intake Specialist — Business Law Group

Location: New Orleans, LA (in-office) Type: Full-time

About the Role

Business Law Group is a boutique firm in New Orleans serving founders and business owners — contracts, trademarks, M&A, commercial leasing, business owner estate planning, ATC/liquor licensing — plus employee-side litigation for equal pay, harassment, and wage payment claims. This is not a receptionist role. You'll be the first real conversation someone has with our firm, whatever they're calling about, and you're not just collecting their information — you're evaluating whether it's a genuine fit before it ever reaches an attorney.

The role has three parts: case evaluation (the core of it — assessing what a caller actually needs against the right criteria for that practice area, whatever it is), scheduling and case management (owning a client's path from first contact through to a booked consult, with nothing falling through the cracks), and marketing input (what you hear on the phone, every day, across every kind of client, is real data — we want that feeding back into how we talk about what we do).

If you're good at this, you're not executing a script — you're making real judgment calls across a wide range of practice areas, and shaping how the firm evaluates cases and talks about them.

Five things matter more here than anything on a resume:

Client-obsessed. You actually want to help the person on the phone, not just process the call.

Curious. You ask the follow-up question instead of taking the first answer at face value — and you notice patterns worth reporting up.

Kind. Especially when you have to tell someone their matter doesn't fit — that's a real part of the job. Direct. You can hold a boundary on the phone without being cold, and you flag what's not working instead of quietly working around it.

Work Ethic. You are passionate about your role, loyal to your team and tribe which makes the hours work a joy not an obligation.

What You'll Actually Do

  • Evaluate every inquiry against the right criteria for its practice area — business contracts, trademarks, M&A, commercial leasing, estate planning, ATC licensing, and employee-side litigation each get evaluated differently
  • Apply our screening criteria correctly, including specific thresholds for employee-side wage claims (employer size, filing timing, dollar floors) and scope screening for business matters
  • Run a conflict check on every matter before it moves forward — both employer-name checks for employment matters and general opposing-party checks for business matters Own the full path from first contact to booked consult — and communicate clearly that every practice line starts with a paid consult, not a free one
  • Track marketing channel and source for every lead in Clio Grow, so the firm can see which channels actually produce qualified consults and paying clients — not just raw lead volume
  • Feed real patterns from your calls back to the firm — what people are actually asking, what confuses them, what our website or ads should be saying differently.

What We Need From You

  • Real judgment across a range of situations, not just a friendly phone manner — you're evaluating fit and facts, not reading a script.
  • Comfortable talking to a wide range of callers — a stressed business owner, an upset employee, someone who isn't sure what kind of lawyer they even need
  • Careful with details: getting a threshold, a scope boundary, or a routing call wrong wastes an attorney's time or turns away someone who should've moved forward
  • Organized enough to own a full pipeline across multiple practice areas without anything slipping
  • Observant enough to notice patterns worth flagging, not just process each call in isolation No legal background required — we'll train you on the specific rules this role runs on
  • Comfortable telling someone no, directly and kindly, when their matter doesn't fit

  • How to Apply

    1. Send an email with the subject line "Case Evaluation Specialist — [Your Last Name]" with your resume attached.
    2. In the body of your email, apply this rule to the scenario below and tell us your answer, with your reasoning, in a few sentences:

Screening rule: A wage payment claim only qualifies for a consult if the unpaid amount is at least $5,000 and the employer has 15 or more employees.

Scenario: A caller says their employer owes them $4,200 in unpaid commissions. The company has about 40 employees at their location, but the caller mentions the company has locations in six other states too.

Does this caller qualify for a consult? Applications that skip this part, or that just restate the rule without applying it to the scenario, won't be reviewed.
