Day Shift – 5x8 Hours (8:00 AM – 4:30 PM)
No weekends or on-call required
Float: Rare; within similar or lower acuity units only
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Ambulatory Colorectal Surgery Clinic team for a 13-week contract. The RN will play a key role in providing high-quality outpatient nursing care, assisting with colorectal surgical procedures, patient education, and post-operative management.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in an outpatient surgical clinic setting.
- Assist with colorectal procedures, including:
- Anal manometry
- Flexible sigmoidoscopy
- Rubber band ligation of hemorrhoids
- Ostomy marking and care
- Anal ultrasound
- Botox injection and skin tag removal
- Conduct patient assessments and record vital signs, medical histories, allergies, and medications.
- Perform venipuncture, IV infusions, and intramuscular injections.
- Manage medication reconciliation and patient teaching for ostomy and wound care.
- Coordinate scheduling, insurance verification, and referrals.
- Prepare procedure rooms and maintain aseptic technique.
- Document patient care in Cerner EMR.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams such as Respiratory Therapy, Radiology, Pharmacy, and Rapid Response.

- Daily Census: 25–45 visits per day
- Unit Size: 5 rooms
- Procedures Performed: Diagnostic and minor surgical colorectal procedures
Common Diagnoses:
- Hemorrhoids, Anal fissures, Fistulas, and Abscesses
- Rectal bleeding and colorectal malignancies
- Diverticulitis, Ostomy management, and Pilonidal cysts
Work Environment
- Medical Setting: Ambulatory/Outpatient Surgical Clinic (Hospital-based)
- Physical Setting: Outpatient procedural unit
- Physical Demands: Standing, walking, lifting, and assisting during procedures

Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent nursing experience (ambulatory, colorectal, or surgical clinic preferred)
- Charting System: Cerner (required)
- Teaching Hospital Experience: Preferred
- Travel Experience: Not required (first-time travelers welcome)
Education & Licensure
- Education: Associate or bachelor’s degree in nursing (ADN or BSN)
License:
- Active DC RN license required (pending license accepted with proof of submission prior to start)
Certifications
Required:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association
- DC State RN License
Preferred:
- ACLS or other specialty certifications related to ambulatory/surgical nursing
