What are the responsibilities and job description for the Insurance Defense Attorney position at Business Alliance Insurance Company?
Business Alliance Insurance Company is an established California domiciled insurance company that provides property and liability insurance to small business and issues contractor’s license bonds exclusively in California. Disputes between contractors and their customers occasionally occur, which sometimes involve litigation involving the license bond. BAIC is seeking a qualified candidate to manage litigated contractor’s license bond claims / disputes and liability claims.
Job Responsibilities:
· Manage a case load of contractor’s license bond claims selected liability claims from the origination of a dispute to resolution, which may include being responsible through the litigation process.
· Collaborate with claims adjusters and senior management on strategy execution, compliance and resolution. Draft complaints, prepare other court filings, draft motions, conduct and respond to discovery and remain current on all legal correspondence.
· Represent BAIC in litigation events such as court hearings, case conference calls, depositions and mediations. This may involve preparing for mediation, coordinating with courts and opposing counsel, creating trial exhibits and trying cases, though rare.
· Participate in strategy sessions with claims adjusters, management and negotiate settlements.
Qualifications:
· Must be a licensed attorney
· JD from an accredited law school
· Active member of the State Bar of California
· 3 years of civil litigation experience
· Strong writing, communication and organizational skills
· Knowledge of Section 7000 of the California Business and Professions Code is a plus.
